Don't fall for this ''mother India'' nonsense. Big sham to e
by Hilmesh Gandhi on Mar 13, 2009 05:16 PM  | Hide replies

Living in India sucks if you step to the west. You can't even go to another state to work without facing discrimination and having to go through all the polictical problems that come with it. Politicians encourage violence based on religion and other stupid reasons. You have to bribe your way through for each and every single thing you need to do. What shining India and "super power" we are talking about? It's nothing but a big sham.

Don't give those stupid lectures of "mother India" when no one cares about people in "mother India". Time to use your talents and skills in a country that will appreciate it.

Ever since I left India, life has been comfortable, people treat me like a human being and not like a some low caste or low qualified guy. People appreciate you for your charecter and what you can do here. Respect - ever heard of that word in India? Of course, we hear it everyday. Ever seen it??? Yes, you have to suck up to your HOD, to the traffic police, to the tax officier, to every idiot who can boss you. Save it. No more.

This country will never improve even if it can. If there is one person who wants to improve it, there will be 10 more people who want to keep it rotting. Well, who cares....let's migrate to another country who really will appreciate what we can do. And I found that place. Peace of mind ever

So wake up and start looking at your country critically. The glory days of India are over if ever there was one... unless you are a politician or a millionair

Difference is, Bush and Reagen didn't ruin their state, get in through bribery and can be challenged at court by any citizen without fear of death threats or having to bribe his way through.

They have their faults...but if you want the lesser of 200 evils, you know which country to look at.

Gandhi or no Gandhi - life for normal Indians simply suck.

We are all slum dogs... not millionaires. That movie brought the real India to the front. And the real Indians came out when they were offended by it since they can't look at the hard truths about their country. As long as you keep cheering them and saying nonsense like "we will become super power in 2020" and "we are better than china" and "Pakistan will collapse" (stuff we have been saying for decades BTW).

Well, don't wait for India to shine. It will never happen unless there is real change. But if you can progress...go for it. Don't care two hoots what the government or other people tell you to do about your life.

why can't u nri's just behave the same way u do over there.like being courteous to people, not demeaning your kind , understanding problems and respecting others ,.I mean i know plenty of nri's who come back , throw attitudes as though you have achieved everythng and people back here backwards.ok letme tell you people over here do make the same /in fact more kind of money you make(seems for most nri's that was the only diffrentiation). We also enjoy our lifestyles and we also have have our share of problems.most of the NRI's would be very courteous to every waiter ( just as an example) over there , wouldnt think twice before humiliating one in india (saala tip lega).U c the problem is that u still are stuck in the gutter mentality u believe u left behind. And this generation really dont care about govt or what other people say( like u mentioned) and those other people include NRIs like you.so dude come down . for most of us u are a zombie with a super inflated ego without any substance

Definitely many people in india specially ministers, politicians, babus make a lot of money. Other means of making money is dalali like what Amar Singh do. If you want to make money by hard work then probably you can meet you end needs and suffering at every step every day.

No one is here to argue with anyone or give free advise. If you refuse to see mirror evenafter showing then its your choice. Whatever money you are earning by legal/illegal mean or have a lot of money, you will stay in similar pollutted environment, use the same potholed road and expose yourself to same kind of unwanted risks. Its your choice to stay there and not improve anything.

Indians are so dependent on NRIs that they requested one NRI , Mahatma Gandhi to lead freedom struggle. Many other leaders in freedom struggle were NRIs at some time in their life.

It's the Indian mindset...not an NRI mindset...

I value human life and do not want to treat anyone like that.

In the US, a waiter, mechanic, plumber, doctor, engineer - are all treated the same. All have to wait in the queue, all have to pay the same fine for crossing the red light.

I hope people in India, whether NRIs or locals treat others the same way too.

so how is that so different from India where there is racism and castism virtually in every city (forget at the state level).

I've been in the US, plenty of cities. If you give respect, you get respect. Be nice and you people are nice to you. It doesn't matter which nationality you are. I interact with people of various origins. Not that there are no exceptions. There are...but frankly, that is just an exception.

People hype racism in US so much because they can't give a hard look against themselves. A Keralite, Tamilian, Northie... you name it; the discrimination is so blatant! Had enough of it.

By the way, till now, I have never ever faced a single incident of racism or racist comment (against the law by the way and you can take them to court. No need to go to ATM to bribe police or lawyer and verdict will come in its due time...not ten years).

It's time to stop believing and trusting in your country when it is ruled by the biggest idiots you can think of. Time to believe and trust in only yourself and look for the good of yourself and family and people who are close to you.

Now elections will come. You think ANYTHING will change???? Different parties will come and go...but the same story will continue. If you are not dishonest, tricky, and deceptive, you can never get anywhere in India. Honesty is never appreciated (and is even seen as a weakness contrary to what our school text books taught us).

Till every human life is considered precious in this country, don't give two hoots about it. Right now, the only human life that is of value is

In order of importance:

1. Politician & his cronies
2. Rich
3. Religion
4. Caste
5. Everyone else is crap.

Just take a look at all the religious fighting and other riots in the country and you will see politicians actually supporting them.

When was the last time you had a riot in the US?

1992 - L.A Riots. And big changes happened after that.

In India, same story, same white wash.

Save it.

Time to get a real life and stop sucking up to these idiotic government. Every year we see record taxes collection. But do you ever see ANY progress?

Government says less people are now Below Poverty Line. You know why??? Because they reduced the Poverty Line limit...HAHA...WHAT A JOKE! Reduce the poverty line limit and say there are less poor - Who do they think they are fooling?

There are Two types of ppl when it comes to change system. Some stay within system and change it. Some leave system and try to change it from outside. Rest all just talk about it. About honesty its all relative term. Someone asked Warren buffet about honesty. He says its hard to answer. Things would be different if i had to feed 3, 4 kids and had no money at home...

Good for you that you are now leading a happy and comfortable life in US but dont u think u have some responsibility towards this adopted country of urs i.e America? If yes, then y not a bit of these feelings for your real motherland. Think of it as that your mother had to abandon u when u were born but that was out of some really strong compulsions(remember Kunti and Karna). Not only that, it turned out so much better for you, as you say it. Time to do something about the real mother of yours! Don't you agree?

I may not be agree with the whole you wrote. But I do agree that the law and order, the judiciary system is all shit. We have sleeping parliamentarians who let any bill passed without any debate. We have biased law and there is no single ray of change. The health care or the justice will remain same doesn't matter the stock sensex goes 8000 or 80000 no one has will to change the system to improve the living conditions for people living in India. You raise single voice about reservation for Sc or OBC and there will be train derail All over India. Few incidents have happened in the past that has touched our souls ie. the final justice in Jessica Lal case but that too was an exception and happened after 8-10 yrs time. Delay in justice is a kind of denial only.

I know many many people who suffered for being honest. I don't want my family or kids growing up in such an environment where honesty will ruin you.

There are challenges of growing else where (immorality is the biggest one). But they can be overcome as I have seen many families who are dedicated and sincere in upbringing their kids.

But what you cannot overcome is when the system treats you like an animal and forces you to bribe and sends you to jail and live under threats for being honest.

Guest, I agree with the gist of what you have said.

Infact, after I came here and the way I was treated (like a human being!), I have no words to explain how I take it upon myself to give back to this country by being honest (it is appreciated and rewarded).

I am still in touch with my roots. I fund charities for orphans so that they will recieve education and can make a life for themselves and given a choice, they can decide and work towards the system they want. I am still attached to India but frankly, I have lost all hope since the system is all corrupt. When you don't value honesty and human life, what else is left to fight for???

I only try to help at the individual level. Frankly, India as a whole - forget it. But if someone at the individual level needs help - I see a human being.

Frankly, I don't want my kids to go through the struggles I had. I am sure they will have their own. But regretting to be honest and hard working will not be one of them.

In the US, everyone gets a shot. It's your choice to take advantage of it or waste it.

I can't even file an FIR in the police station! Because then it will be a headache for the police and they will threaten you or ask for bribe after bribe.

In India, it all works through the "connections" concept. You have people in high places, then you can progress. Else - slum dog. But no millionaire. Just survival.

Enough is enough...time to get on with YOUR life.

Consider for instance former president Bill Clinton and this will tell you the difference between India and the US

He ended in big trouble and the whole nation was in uproar - you know why?

Not because he had an extra-marital affair but because HE LIED.

But in India, the problem will be because he had an extra marital affair and lying is part of every day life for a politician and no one really cares.

This is just to illustrate that TRUTH & HONESTY is a big problem in India while IMMORALITY is a big problem in the US and West.

Aha, Kaushik , now we know what racism is.
Once, in Chicago, a Mexican-American, who was just sitting next to me at the airport , blurted out: The govt. will have to give justice to people who are not on H1B's too!

I asked him, what made him think I am on H1B? He said Indians are being preferred by the US govt. over Mexicans.

On furhter enquiry, it turned out that he had no idea what H1B was, he thought H1B means a special visa for Indians, whereas Latinas were not given the GC.

I realised that day, how INDIANS lacked any organisation which tells the Americans about their culture, religion, and skills.
For example most Americans think, our main industry is Call centers.
Nobody knows that India sent a unmanned probe to the moon, and neither do Americans know that India is ocerwhelmingly a non-muslim country.Latinas in particular think that we are ARABS!!!! I kid you not!

Anyway, Indians will never prosper beyond a certain level, till we UNITE and talk as one voice. Hopefully with increasing discrimination , Indians in USA will wake up.

Sir.... with due respect to your gyaaaan - what is your point ? Do we Indians need to unite to develop the country or do we need to unite to prove to the US that we are brilliant and fantastic and thats why we should be given H1B visas ? And does it matter if Latina's think we are Arabs ? Or did it matter to your ego that a pretty latina went to bed with someone else ( maybe an illiterate mexican farm hand ) and rejected you - the almighty s/w engineer Indian ? It doesnt make any difference to a Latina who you are and so why shud it matter to you whether they think you are arab or mongolian ? Secondly if India is good enuff to send an unmanned mission to the moon, surely it is good enuff for its people to stay there. Why do they desperately need H1B visas to escape to the US for a better life ? Any answers dude ?

Amitabh - you are missing the point. It is not about being accepted or rejected by a Latina. It is more about projecting the right image about India. If people in the US realize that Indians are highly educated, skilled people and are not confined to snake charmers and other exotic professions, there will be a wider acceptance for Indians abroad.

I hate to disappoint you sir and I don;t know what circles you have been hanging around in - the people in the US who matter know exactly what India(n)s are and what they are capable of. The reason why American investment was high in India and american corporates came rushing in to selel their products / outsource was precisely becoz of that. What the mexican laborer or latina on the street thinks about India is immaterial. The people who matter in the US know exactly what India has to offer. If they thought it was about snake charmers and clowns, Microsofts and Oracles and Googles of the world wouldnt be opening their development centers in India or the Mckinseys and BCG's and Booze Allen Hamiltons wouldnt be having 10 offices around the country. The Fords and GM's wouldnt have coming rushing in or there wouldnt have been a mad rush amongst Luxury hotels to open their chains. As simple as that. Ofcourse you are free to hang around with farm hands or dishwashers and take their opinion about India and educate them about our "CULTURE and HERTITAGE" - at the end of the day, they will go back and look after their own community's interests. You and Me and our culture don;t matter. Think about it - if the Chinese came and educated u about their glorious culture would you let chinese professionals come and take away all your jobs for cheaper wages ?

For the low IQed bongs, here I go again:
Mexicans have a strong lobby in the US, their govt. tell the US, hey dont be tough on illegal latinas.I am saying, we should be able to say this , through our lobbies in the US, hey cool it on the Indian H1B's , dont treat them like shit.
You have a problem with that?
Mohanty seems to be a loser, who is jealous of fellow Indians making it big outside.
Most of these 'mahanty types' leave Bengal and work in other states, and when they cannot make it out, they flip,I feel sorry for these guys.

Very well said Amitabh. I dont know why Indians dont understand Americans being tough on H1B. Theeducated class has a loud voice in the US. They are competing for the H1 jobs.I cant blame them. they are also skilled. Illegal latino workers are a reality in Us , being neighbours just like Bdeshis and Nepalis in India.

@Sudhir - according to youif Americans were educated about our culture, religion and skills - they would dedicate a special visa to Indians ? What world are you living in mate ? Its like a laborer who has been brought to help build a building saying that if I educate my master about my heritage he will let me stay on in this building indefintely. Yaaar - H1b was designed for a particular purpose - u go there, finish the job and get out. Simple. They paid you for the job and matter ends there. In between if you get a GC fine - if you dont why whine ? What discrimination are u talking about ? Indians get 45k out of 65k general H1B issued in a year trhu legal and dubious methods and on top of that you say that India is being discriminated against ? Wow man - u deserve an O category visa not an H1b.

Faceless, now I get it. You mean you are still stuck at the glass ceiling level of 65k?
Its time to live life on the main stream.Start thinking , you are equal to the 'whites'. 65k? What a low expectation to have.Dude thats utterly middleclass.Any Indian professional , software or otherwise, with 10 years in the US, would be depressed at 65K.

Most of these rediffers, are frustated desis stuck in low jobs or have low esteem, and strive for a ethnic niche in the US, scared to confront main stream challenges of the US.

One similar incident I have experienced is, someone asking my Client Engagement Partner if we have internet and other things in India. I said hello... the great great Sumeet Bhatia is an Indian and if I start listing all of them then I will spend all my time doing the same thing than to work.

BTW guyz....
Where is the main topic? H1B????

The sad truth is, a desi H1B, has less support to immigrate than a farm working latina.
For Indians like me, who are are settled here in USA, I would like to see more Desis here in USA.
The idea to is further our culture/race world wide.Mohanty and his multiple ids , have a problem with that. They want to just come to USA on a H1B, live like a refugee, be the butt of Jokes at the work place, and keep eating macher jhol with their hands.Losers.

Nothing GOOD or BAD.
by Jhkkk fgfgfg on Mar 13, 2009 02:24 PM

There is nothing as good or nad but thinking makes it so is a right saying. Whether its India or US there is no place on earth which is free of problems and is perfect.

India has its own problems. People who go to US they do feel that we in India shd have the qualities and infrastructure that US offers. But people who decide to live in US do miss the cultural richness of India.

Again this is for individual to decide. I dont say anything good or bad to people who decide to leave India.

Best wishes

Indians - Show your patriotism
by Somalinga Raju on Mar 13, 2009 01:32 PM  | Hide replies

How long are Indians going to do slavery jobs in US holding H1B visa at the cost of country's selfrespect and dignity. Now time has come for Indians to contribute their bit selflessly to their motherland for having grown up eating on our land. There is a lot of demand for labours and maid servants in India.

Why should i come and serve in US. If needed, i will feel proud to serve my fellow Indians in my motherland.

And when you hate to return back get buried there only after death, not on Bharat soil.

There are a lot more descrimination in india in day to day life for migrants. If you are in your own town/state then only there is chance that you will not face descrimination. Violence and descrimination against migrants are well known whereever you go. Be in Bombay, pune, Chennai, bangalore, Kolkata, delhi ....... This list can go on and may include all cities and towns.

Living in India sucks. You can't even go to another state to work without facing discrimination and having to go through all the polictical problems that come with it.

Ever since I left India, life has been comfortable, people treat me like a human being and not like a some low caste or low qualified guy. People appreciate you for your charecter and what you can do here.

So wake up and start looking at your country critically. The glory days of India are over if ever there was one... unless you are a politician or a millionaire.
