Excellent Article
by vineeth tk on Jul 21, 2009 08:50 PM  | Hide replies

The best article I had seen after the AI salary problem came to limelight.
Unlike some authors' who don't have a clear idea of airline business and AI ,this one sounds authentic and well balanced...first time seeing such an article in Rediff.

Air India cannot be revived because its employees are secure in their "permanent job and no work" situation. Air Indian is an airline of last resort, to be used only when there is no option. This leads to an easy way to revive Air India. Give it a monopoly on the Gulf sector and the Delhi-Mumbai route.

its all a hype...
for long ppl have had this concept in their heads syaing AIRINDIA is the problem child.... its not the airline its the pplp .....they have hyped up things and spread rumours abt it being bad sad or ne thing of tht sort....

thts wat happens,... when u get to hear all this shit arnd.. no one wud wana exp the same thing ...thts where in the ppl wanting to travel by this National carrier went dwn .......

its the ppl and their mentality ...if a foreign ailine serves them crap food ..they wud take it y cuz its an international thing and they wud say ohh the food they serve here isint our taste pallet but it sure is good...
but if u have the same person flyin Airindia... u wud have him complain abt the dal to the chicken to the rice to the bottle of water and absolutely everything....

seriously guys Air India is not jus any air line ... it is the National Carrier......

we shud learn to appreciate wat good we have in our country other than runnin around like headless chickens for smthing tht dsn even belong to us or was ours....

if we learn to luv and respect it ...only then wud it be tht we Wud see AIR INDIA spread its wing in the sky...only then will we have Air India to its former GLORY!!!

Our Govt is to blame
by Kamlesh on Jul 21, 2009 08:49 PM  | Hide replies

Our govt and misinster of civil aviation is to be blamed for all the mess AI is going through.
He has made way for private airlines...by giving AI rough treatment and ensring that AI cannot comete with these private airlines.
Forcefully AI was merged with IA (which was facing huge losses) without trying to address IA issues. Then, all profit making sectors of AI were given to private Airlines and AI was made to fly only on loss making sectors....Also, the AI planes were not given permissions to fly...to ensure that ppl get frustrated and go to other private airlines...
Various other factors were created to trigger erosion of AI passenegers to private airlines...
I believe the ministers are getting bribes from these private airlines and purposely killing the maharaja....

JWhy only AI flights are not given permission to flyworld wide! Do you think that all are jealous to success of AI so all airports including foreign do not allow AI to fly.

This is the standard response of Air India employees. Can you explain how AI was forced to fly on loss-making sectors? Mumbai-New York and Delhi-London are not loss making sectors. And why has Air India stopped flying the lucrative Delhi-Singapore route and has started issuing code-sharing tickets with Singapore Airlines? (Indian Airlines continues to fly to Singapore. Although merged, AI and IA still operate separately).

Appalling

Sixty years after India became indpendent, 60% of our people still urinate and defecate in the open air. We have no money to build toilets, but we can spend Rs 50,000 crores to save the jobs of the indolent, incompetent and boorish employees of Air India. Some day, India will have its come-uppance.

IT is not the business of the government to be in business
by tupushapar on Jul 21, 2009 08:40 PM

THe problem with most government companies is they have babus and ministers on board. They are not trained to earn profits and make money for the government. NACIL should have an IPO and sell of more than 50% stake to private entrepreneurs who can independently take care of the company and its affairs. We need accountability and there is no question on national pride here. its a loss making company and selling it off at a god price is better than pumping in tax payers money with no eye on profits.

Revival of Air India
by jambu jambu on Jul 21, 2009 08:33 PM

Before any cost cutting and other areas like improving the occupancy etc., the first and foremost thing to be done is removal of Mr Praful Patel )PP) as Minister In Charge ( independant charge) - the reason being - he was the concerned minister for more than 5 years and he is the culprit for all the problem which AI is facing now, so logically he shd be removed from the minstership- he can be given some other ministeries like minister for minorities- women empowerment etc., so that the country can be saved -

Give Air India to Mallya
by MGR on Jul 21, 2009 08:31 PM  | Hide replies

Loss making Air India can be given to Vijay Mallya who runs Kingfisher Airlines. All loss making sectors should be privatised immediately.

Are you sure Vijay Mallya will buy it? He himself is struggling with Kingfisher and Deccan.

I wrote in this column earlier, to GIVE AIR-INDIA back to TATAS.
Every PSU is a loss making venture as the net expenses are met for the welfare of the babus only. Moreover, our PSU employees are aware, that in private sectors one has to work hard to earn the wages.Just re-call computerisation decades ago, and all PSU employees went on strike, telling that they will loose jobs as computers are FIVE TIMES FASTER.Now what is happening? only one fifth of work is done in all PSUs.All companies must be privatised and our work force must perform at least 80% on productivity.
