air india in a mess
by Margarida crasto on Jul 22, 2009 03:49 PM

why not with mr. praful patel as a civil aviation minister - with both son and daughter given to Kingfisher and Jet Airlines - more preference has been given to these airlines over airindia and indianairlines - why blame the employees - it should be mr. patel who should be taken to task for all the losses

Perform or perish
by Kid on Jul 22, 2009 01:00 PM

Since ages people know the dictum, Perform or Perish.

Except probably the Soviet commies and Indian PSUs. Air India being a glaring example.

Get it privatised, let the pot bellies twiddling their thumbs know they are under watch, their job is at stake, bring in a tough task master a la Y C Deveshwar(who showed how to get things done during his short stint),cut flabs, keep aside emotions. These are some of the remedial measures I propound that AI needs immediately to survive.

Otherwise, there's no point in hanging on, if the bottomless pot doesn't yearn to change.

if there is one organisation in this country

whose staff is the most indisciplined

even after being fatly,it is air india.

better to get rid of the deadwood even

by paying the salary of the remaining

years of their service. people over

50 who do not perform at all could be

chucked out without batting an eye lid.

after this is done, 25 per cent should

be disinvested in favour of an airline

coming forward to manage this white-elephant

with an additional 10 percent

reserved for the remaining staff members.

patel sab, be bold. do not unduly

punish the taxpayers by giving

sops to this worthless company.

u will do a world of good to the people of

india if you sell this to a strategic partner,

like singapore airlines or cathay pacific

whose management practices are the best

in the world. best wishes to patel sab.

Close / Sell Air India
by Harshit Saxena on Jul 22, 2009 10:53 AM

Bull Shit!
Air India must be sold out. Government has no business to be in Civil Aviation. Treat all airlines in India like Jet, Kingfisher, Spicejet, Indigo, Goair, Paramount, MDLR as national airlines. No civlised country on earth has a government run airline, on tax payer's money. Praful Patel should behave like minister of civil aviation, but he is behaving like minster of Air India. By the way pakistani airlines PIA (Please inform allah)is working far better than AI (Allah informed).

what is the solution
by arani prakasam on Jul 22, 2009 06:11 AM

i think you cannot endlessly waste poor tax payers money on mismanaged airlines. it is commercial establishment . if it makes loss, it should die. or sale it some one as is where is basis and save further waste of money. after all this hall gulla , did air india staff reduced one rupee sacrifice or perks.
they are comfortable going on strike and putting the passengers into difficulty.

Author's next book is excusitis
by H N on Jul 22, 2009 04:44 AM

Boy this person is so good in giving excuse, he should be be added to the bloated bureaucracy as chief excuse writer.

He want's the government to open up the skies slowly to benefit Air India, has he thought about the plight of the consumers. Consumers don't exist for Airlines, it is the other way around.

And why is he hungup on saving the government airlines anyway. Let them go bankrupt. there are 10's of large countries that are doing very well without national carrier.

Excess staffing
by J Chandrasekhar on Jul 22, 2009 04:31 AM

If you look into the cost of employees to the organization, you would realise that the PSU is existing to provide employment and not to make profits. We have to bother becuase it is the tax payers' precious money
