I dont understand y people make such fuzz over any new developments! This is how a city grow. Its no good, to screw up the entire city by just concentrating at only one corner of the city.

Dude Nobody is opposing developments esp in city like Bangalore. The problem is the connectivity. Please drive down the stretch from city to airport and you will know why people are cribbing.
I dont know why lot of people crying over this issue??? This is how a city has to grow...not like concentrating every damn thing at one corner of the city and screwing up the entire infrastructure. most of the places across the globe this is the case...airports are atleast like 40kms away...so lets be proud of the new airport and be happy that we have a world class( havent seen yet...but will do soon) airport!!!

I also miss boiled peanuts(will get only in banglore)dosa of Kamat's,(even i get dosa in Ludhiana made by typical south indians but its not that tasty as was in banglore,especially coconut chutney)still remember the taste of coffee.

I am a frequent traveller to both Bangalore and Mumbai and a great lover of both the places but there are city specific problems in both.
The great city of Mumbai is having its own quota of problems namely:
1. Over crowded local trains 2. Slums everywhere (Dharavi. Asia's biggest?) 3. Senas of various hues just killing the cosompolitanism form which it was famous. 4. Congestion and filth quotient is very very high.
Point is all cities in India by and large are lacking in infrastructure and amenities if you compare them with cities abroad.
Your statements are quite misguided and is a case of kettle calling the pot black !!

Abhishek, nice sensible post there. All cities in India leave a lot to be desired at the end of the day. But each have a lot of positives as well. But things are improving for sure. It's only a matter of time before ours is a country on par with developed countries abroad.
Its funny to see people reacting to the new airport in a negative manner. Many here are immediately pointing fingers at air-travel time to Chennai, which is 45 minutes, as if Chennai is the only place we can travel to.
We need to note that this airport is built keeping in mind growth in Air Travel over the nexr few decades. Yes, its very true that the infrastucture is not the best around the airport and approach to city. But, this is now and won't be the same for ever.
Every week, we see a new underpass or sub-way or fly-over opening in Bangalore. This week it was the malleswaram underpass. City is growing and infrastructure is improving and within the next few years, the approach roads to airport and other related infrastructure will improve.
Coming to fare to travel to airport?
If you can afford a air-ticket spending a few thousands, then you have to spend a few hundreds getting to airport.
Sad but true that Air-travel in India is still a luxury and is meant for middle/upper-middle and rich people only.

What are you talking about Mr. Bird & Mr. Sameer Joseph? Just coz u r Bangaloreans, doesnt mean you can\\\'t take criticism of Bangalore. It is the most over-hyped city of India (IT capital with a hep yound crowd, etc etc). The city SUCKS....it has no night life, no public transport except auto, half of u guys dont speak English/Hindi and now this airport which was constructed first and then they plan to make a proper route to connect to the city (rather than being other way round or both simultaneously). I was in Bangalore for 2 years and got sick of the city (it shud be called a village really) and returned back \\\'THE PLACE\\\' in India to be in .... Mumbai, my hometown :) Learn something from the infrastructure of Mumbai....the no. of flyovers its got, it stays awake all night, people are cosmopoliton and it had the biggest aiport in India right since its inception for all these years. Even now after the BAIL airport has opened, Mumbai will have a much much much bigger airport by 2010.

India must catch up with small little countries like Singapore in this 21st century . A modern airport is welcome whether in Bagalore or Jhumritatalya . It will be a great asset .But unfortunately Indians are not much of an asset in their own country . A swanky airport with inefficient and boorish staff . Doesn't jell.

As the time to reach the new Airport will take 90 to 100 minutes on an average, flying to Chennai from Bangalore will take more time than travelling by Volvo Bus. How is it possible?
Let's say 100 minutes to travel to New Airport. Waiting time at Airport for all kinds of Formalities will take 1 hour on an average.
Flying time 40 to 60 minues.
Check-out time including with Baggage collecton at Chennai airport maximum 30 minutes.
Additional 60 to 90 minutes to reach local destination at Chennai.
Adding all these time, it comes to more than 5 hours of un-pleasant travelling time of flying from Bangalore to Chennai.
Our Shatabdi Express train takes less than 5 hours to travel from Bangalore to Chennai.
In the meantime, private travels like KPN, SHARMA etc. will operate Volvo buses between 4.30 AM and 5.30 AM so that they can also reach Chennai Koyambedu Bus Stand around 10.30 AM.
Hence, 75% of regular air travellers would prefer Rail or Roadways to be more comfort, convenient and also time-saving mode of travel between the two cities than travelling by Flights.

yeah..to all those IT-BT honchos and other small timers who cite lack of connecvtivity to the airport..didn't you guys ever think about it when Narayan Murthy himself was one of the Board members on BIAL? He must have travelled to the site at least 50-6o times..didn't he think connectivity issue then?? The second thing the IT_BT people are saying is the lack to space of handling the present capacity at the new airport..well it the god forsaken HAL can handle it right now why can't BIAL handle it tomorrow??
