The write has to know that IT cant survive of its own. The product that are made by the IT sector is utilized by Non-IT. Hence , if IT needs to grow the capital should be diverted to the other sectors. And that is what is exactly happening. No Stopping Indie. Mera India Mahan
I am not sure the author have any technical knowledge on Indian industry. He claims Indians have not learnt anything. They just executes what the customers say. Its totally wrong.
Infosys,Wipro,Satyam are examples in IT industry. They don't just execute. I believe no body in the world have expertise like Infosys, wipro. If it appered in Forbes.com, doesn't mean what the author said is right. I ask the author to write a article after 20 years, about IT industry and IT-enable services.. By the time, India itself can support all IT companies. The sluggish period comes for everybody, including world economy powerhouse US. So the author need to wait and watch.

I beg to differ with the views of Desperado and Kala Menon. What the author has mentioned in the ariticle is that majority of the Indian software exports is in term of Human Resource. There are not many Indian Product Based companies which follows the 'as-is' mechanism of delivery. Well even if you isolate companies like Infosys and the likes no questions about their technical ability but to be honest they are still catering to the mid business and mid technical expertise quadarant, reason being head count game. I dont question their business strategy since they are the best players in their field but what the author intends to narrate is that its time we strike a balance from being a service exporter to being a product exporter. This would get our economy be more stronger to resist the ripples caused by the US slowdown. You may now term that we have HPs,IBM,Google, Microsoft in India and all of them are product companies, but please just remember that are just Captives.

As of today, Indian companies are writing the code what overseas clients want. They do the thinking (product conception, design etc)....we do the coding.
Is it not ironic that despite having the world's largest pool of software programmers, we have not produced a single good quality software?
Whether it is a browser or operating system or a messenger application or an email application or anti-virus, it all started overseas.
I am aware that hotmail was started by an Indian but this happened in US...none of our IT biggies can or will create a product like hotmail. We are far happier writing the code as against taking the risk and creating a product ourselves.
Dearest my country tech-brains...dont always think of working for a MNC....think big...and think of creating more MNC in India..then only everybody will survive otherwise...the same will happen like written in article....beware...my dear software industry aspirants...today is very good....but tomorrow may not be that good to you..and especially for your children....so think of creating something on our own...where our children..take that ahead..and we outsource to somebody out side india...think of this...
The author and article are highly inclined to one point of view with no balanced view of the situation. As some one already mentioned, we could have expected more matured/researched article from forbes.com... Sp.
We failed to differentiate the need for innovation and use of capital to our own product and demand more performance from our educted Engineers. The jobs you are talking about is ordinary graduates. The amount of Engineers we produced in the last 5-10 years, most of them are crazy in getting into MNC and see their personal benefits only. None thinks about creating something for the country or become entrepenuer. They don't gain the experience to keep our Indian companies floating too. Still we boast of few big names and families only in India. It is scary with so many educated talents in the country not in the right direction. None question the validity of skyrocketing real-estate markets too. It has no justification for the same brick and cement combo for the past three generations.

Their is nothing wrong with a person dream for an MNC job... The wrong part is , Everyone dream for this... den who will create the MNC.. If narayanmurti also would have dreamed the same... we would have not been working with Infy..

There is always a problem when every body (i mean all the engineers) are planning only to have MNC jobs. it is supposed to be balanced.
@ Dingbat.... friend... i do agree that IIM grads make the most cash and not in IT but in Finance/Banking but as for your salary figures... the 16 Lacs plus is not given to everyone... only a few probably 3 or 4 make it to that level... most of them still stay stuck at 5 to 7 lpa thats almost the same a guy with 2 to 3 years of experience can make in a good IT company in India (I am not talking about Infy/TCS/Wipro, these are still very low on the salary front)
As far as being a coolie is concerned... yes we all are and there is no big a deal about it coz each and everyone in india is a coolie to the west. We have nothing to call our own, only foreign brand and the word "Equity" used by them all
As far as the corp world in india goes, what we need to know is that we really lack innovative thinking... this roots down to the very establishment of r education and lifestyle.
So we are not fighting IIM/IIT grads and their high pay packets... they 100% deserve it, what we are talking about is knowledge capital... something to call our very own.
