Every Windows XP license you buy ..
by Osho Rajneesh on Jan 24, 2008 02:13 PM  | Hide replies

is money going to Microsoft and USA.
Basically dollar leaving India.

That is the reason people buy pirated XP for little more than the cost of blank CD I guess.

Laptops will be cheaper eventually
by Francis Dias on Jan 24, 2008 12:15 PM  | Hide replies

Laptops require lesser material and therefore should be cheaper. 'Miniaturisation', the process whereby components are made smaller, has happened long ago. Unfortunately, the companies manufacturing laptops still want to milk this property. It only requires a Dell, the largest laptop manufacturer, to drop its prices and bingo, all the others will follow. And that is gradually happening. Were it left to a 'Sony' or a 'Fujitsu' to reduce its prices, even current ones would happen circa 2010, if not later.

As to the prices increasing because of software, enhancements, et al, that's dependant on you. What is important is that a workable model is available for a low price.

Another year down the line and I bet, it may make economic and ergonomic sense to buy a laptop, not forgetting the weight factor.

As for the geeks and the 'milkers', hand held devices which have 'virtual' keyboards and projection screens, et al will be the alley to abide in; laptops and other cheap stuff will be for the plebeian schmuck.

Linux is as good as windows
by on Jan 24, 2008 12:12 PM  | Hide replies

The message we should take from this article is that the cost of the software has to come down. The author has misled users in his article saying that windows is best and linux is not user friendly. This is not all true.
Just see a fedora or Suse linux desktop. it is better , stable and more reliable than any other desktop OS.

Microsoft Windows operating systems are irrelevant
by Prem Krishnan on Jan 24, 2008 12:09 PM  | Hide replies

Microsoft Windows operating systems are irrelevant today. Only ignorance, lethargy and huge marketing budgets are keeping M$ alive. All Microsoft operating systems are buggy and insecure because of poor design. By one estimate more than 10 million PC are infected and ready to be used any
time as bots to attack servers worldwide. If you use one of M$ Windows operating systems your data is not safe.

The only way forward, at present, is GNU/Linux operating systems. I am sure the author has never used Ubuntu a GNU/Linux operating system distribution; otherwise he would not have written what he has written. It seems he has not even heard of Open Office and other open source software. Give Ubuntu a try and you would feel liberated. While using Ubuntu you spend your time doing productive work rather than waste it on maintaining the operating system. There is a huge support available online; even a novice can set things right him/her self.

I am sure Microsoft Operating Systems would become irrelevant in a few years.

The Thieves
by Ghanshyam sengar on Jan 24, 2008 12:06 PM

Microsoft is the biggest thieves who keep looting the its customers by forcing them to buy its different products. They have full teams who keep making different kind of virus and keep feeding into their customers through internet and keep on insisting the customsers to buy either this product or that product which are thoroughly useless as far as their use is concerned. They are worse then robbers since robbers are honest enough to admit that they are looting you. These guys loot you and take your consent as well before looting by forcing you to give the consent or they will block your system.

Bias against Linux
by K G Srivastava on Jan 24, 2008 12:05 PM

I guess the author was paid by Microsoft to spread FUD (Fear, Uncertainity and Doubt) against Linux. There is much more help avaible on Linux than Windows. You just need to google it or post your querry online. I've been using Linux for the past 8 years and never faced any issue. If you think Windows is better than Linux, try installing Vista on a machine with a dual core processor and 2 GB of Ram and try opening ms-word. Result : Word won't open...reason...low memory...
