there are plenty of support group for linux who help. it like driving your own car. when drive ur own car you appriciate different features of your car if you dont drive ur own car, ur car is just a status symbol nothing else.with linux u can do the same but not with windows

Micorsoft OS has support costs too
by Gautam Sinha on Jan 24, 2008 11:46 AM

The author is highly biased. Like Linux , Microsoft OS support requires cost too. It does not automaticlly come with the licensed CD. The only support MS provides with CD is registration

by munish on Jan 24, 2008 11:45 AM

although good point raised through this article but guys (Leslie D'Mmonte & Shivani Shinde) you need to do more analysis / survey before writing some facts. because you can't be always updated in IT.

Better to buy without Operating System
by Digitek Systems on Jan 24, 2008 11:25 AM

Dont mislead by writing there will be 25% raise in cost for adding Windows licensed software.

You can buy windows XP starter edition for app. Rs 1350/- and Home edition for Rs 3300/- Also you get the original CD which you never get when you buy a Laptop/Desktop with loaded OS.

It is best to buy the Laptop/Desktop without the OS and load from original CD. You can always install free Open Office which has all the features of MS Office.

Lesser price will encourage usage
by sumit bhattacharya on Jan 24, 2008 11:23 AM

Majority of the users go for pirated versions of softwares, largely because of the high prices of the originals. There's no doubt that it's always better and safer to use original softwares. With the increasing number of desktop and laptop users, reducing the prices of softwares will encourage their usage, increase the volume of sales and the companies will definitely have nothing to lose in this. So. it's high time that companies reduce software prices!

Author is a supporter of windows with no technical knowledge
by madhu Sudhan on Jan 24, 2008 11:21 AM

Am amazing with this article, it seems author is a supporter of windows and also having no technical knowledge. We can support issues of Linux ourself its initially takes some time but its easy, many open source packages are good and better, why to invest on microsoft package that to heavy price.

Open source software promote Competition.
Closed source software promote Collusion.
