IIM professor
by SARMA P.V on Nov 13, 2006 08:15 PM

Let us try for a solution. No rspectable teacher takes money from his students. For him students are his children. Let the students behave as their own children to their respectable teachers whom they regard them as parents. A word of solace from a child at a right time is a great gift and it gives them courage to die peacefully.
Prof. Ramu is a great professor to have such a student.

More than 100 percent Truth
by Dr. A. Mishra on Nov 13, 2006 06:21 PM

Just three months ago scientific advisor to PM has written the letter regarding research and mentioned that indian science is on death bed. There is no recognition of academic talent in India. Why a talented person should join and stay in academic in India whether IITs or IIMs or any one else. Teaching is a field for medicore in India. May GOD bless our country and give sadbuddhi to dusht netas.

Last days of an IIM professor
by Rao GK on Nov 13, 2006 02:07 PM

The grim reality.

My schoolmates and myself had come face to face with a similar case when one of our Mathematics Teacher passed away on 01 Nov.

This occasion thankfully was the catalyst to revive old bonds and camaraderie amongst the ex-students and the faculty.

I had the privilege to visit my English teacher and all that he does now-a-days is to lose himself in the memories of the old days apart from the occasional foray into the real world.

Need I say anything more about the feelings of the Guru or Sishya ?

Teachers are more than ones parents and nothing can dilute the joy they experience when they meet their old 'boys' !

May God Bless the soul of Late Mr Aiyer for having nurtured some of the best persons around today.

Death becomes a part in life when others mourn as you lull away from this world leaving your loved ones cry for u!
by Kalyan on Nov 13, 2006 01:21 PM

Am not sure, If I had been in authors state, I would have left as such with just tears falling from my eyes.

I dont know, if I had passed out from IIM, I could have behaved like the author that even in the state of agony not being able to express your good words that you take up the responsibility of doing your best to save your professors life.

I deeply regret for the loss of The Kings Maker.

The last days of an IIM professor
by Akhilesh on Nov 13, 2006 09:30 AM

It is ridiculous to blame the politicians. It is not the politician including me we have to change our attitude towards society. One more thing nobody in our country stops anyonefrom doing a decent job. Some people do it with passion.

You had never talked like this if you would have met a good teacher.

To conclude...
"If you are able to read this, thank a teacher"

Proff. Ravi Iyer
by Krishnan on Nov 13, 2006 09:20 AM

Commenting on the article is not appropriate. Instead of Pooling in money together for now and solving one issue, The IIM can put together some knd of superfund and take care of Health issues of it's proffs and other employees. Why depend on Government for everything. The management folks so called elite can't come up with a solution with out asking the government. Show the way, Lead a way so that this does not repeat again. It is happening in Sports (For ex the famous Cricketer in Bangalore), Media (Look at beaten actors) and everywhere. Writing article on the problem is good. Write an article describing the solution as well. If not i will send mine.

Market forces...
by Sandhya on Nov 13, 2006 04:47 AM

It made me sad to hear in the manner in which the Professor died. One of the posts said that everything is dictated by market forces and if the professor had wanted to do some consultancy, then he could have made more money. While I think that there is some amount of truth in this, I still feel that the so-called "market forces" do not do justice to the pay scales of the teachers. These teachers who produce students, who go on to earn salaries in lakhs of rupees per month have more impact on the economy by their influential ideas and teachings. Civil servants - who do certain administrative tasks like filing documents, processing them, while certainly are people whose duty is important for a functioning democracy, have lesser impact on the nation's economy. So, the "market forces" obviously can't treat these two categories of people with same monetary rewards. One final thought - there is still another way in which teachers can be monetarily rewarded. If students of a premier institution like IIM - if they really feel for their professors, and think that they have really benefitted from them - they should institute awards which honor the professors on a regular basis.

touching story
by kumar M on Nov 12, 2006 09:25 PM

Its a touching story. I have long been hearing about the contributions being made by alumnus of IIT's and IIM's which is very good, but being the cream of country everyone of these alumni have to contribute to establish/suggest some sort processes to improve our nations long heard sorrows. Someone should start it and I think it would be a sure success if someone who is as intelligent from IIT or IIM does it.

mr.ramu iyer's situation
by s.n.das on Nov 12, 2006 09:03 PM

it is indeed sad that in our country insurance companies do not cover health insurance after a certain age even though they r in sound health. a person might discover some hidden malignancy any time in life and it is only insurance companies that can meet the cost of treatment as long as the insurer has declared properly at the time of sending his proposal. in cases of terminal cancer, no drug can help as the doctors say. some pain reducing drugs r given for the patient to survive till death. nor euthanasia is allowed by law. there r still lot of unsolved issues like these in our country where celebrities suffer and die for want of relief.
