"Teaching is not a lost art, but the regard for it is a lost tradition" .....thought was rue......but not here as of yet,......when you have such brilliant and regarding students being churned out of the best B-Schools of country.....who are always ready to pay back.
Hi,Balakrishnan, It's really sad that Gurus in our modern society are not being given high respect and monetary compensation as they used to get during the ancient times. The Gurukul system , which was part of Indian's culture, has lost much of its essence. For us, it's time to think and intropect whether we really think about out teachers, who play a dfining role in shaping the nation's future generation. But nothing much would happen unless we change the mindset of those who frame policies. For this, business captains, media professionals and educationsists have to take an initiative to assert that faculty of premier institues like IIT and IIM are special people who should not be treated at par with government babus. They should get better pay package and other facilities vis a vis their eduational qualification. Otherwise , the brain drain cannot stop.
Dear Friends I felt really bad and my heart broke at the situation that an IIM Professor has undergone at the last days of his life. One has to take such examples very seriously. It is not just expression of sympathy towards the bereaved family, but what is the role of an responsible indian is to see that we never ever see such things to happen in future. Teaching profession is the least cared profession in our system. We can quote many reason for the state of that profession. Very first being, the low monetery support and second, no much recognition towards their role in building the future of the nation. Though we do realise the role of teacher whether he/she is primary, secondary, college or university level but it is only in terms of words but we really done nothing in order to make the profession more satisfied atleast in terms of monetary status. Just not consider the teaching profession as any other civil services. This profession indeed deserves special recognition as every other profession flourish under teachings of an ideal teacher of that field.
For a change somebody talked about the people who makes the foundation of IIMs and IITs. Thanks for bringing it into spotlight. I totally support making these institutes independent of tantrums of mediocrity. They are outstanding and deserve to be treated that way.
Let the people Like Ajit Balki. Prosper. then we realay dont need any governemnt support and the Guruji of such people will always feel proud about them
It is very touching to read your article. How can we as a country progress if the elite teaching community faces this kind of end? It is a very sorry state of affair especially when PM & President proclaim themselves to be teachers first & anything after that. The very foundation of this country is endangered by the fact that those who work on our future are a worried lot for day to day survival. Can the top shots wake up & seperate pay strucure of teachers from regular hike for the sake of our future?
Panchkula , Nov. 10 Friday, 2006. Yes Mr Bala Krishnan, it is truly compassionate of you to speak of Late Prof Ramu Aiyer's last struggle against cancer that took him without the experimental drug being a bit too far his purse strings.. while CEOs who sat at his feet wished to help. Non-availing. It happens so ,in the world of Indian intellect, practically every now and then. I know of poets , writers ,philosophers dying in penury.. my -self a university Professor and a small time writer had far less money than my students who do see me as a role model teacher with few needs and always willing to stand for the dignity and autonomy of mind all my 72+yrs.But my condition is no better than the illustrious Prof.R Aiyyer, sad departed.I only pray that I could live my time with serene peace and dignity even if I do not stand any where in comparison to my own siblings or children in worldy possessions D.
