Rise in oil prices
by Pradip on Jul 12, 2006 11:49 AM

Hi
Good morning, Veeresh's article really reflects the facts of which the common public is unaware, we have no idea of the break up the prices (the import duties, transportation costs, insurances, cess, central as well as State-level taxes, profit margin etc.).
We are paying what we are asked for without any knowledge of it and the oil majors plus the dealers are making good profit and the common man is axed.
The biggest cause what I feel is the ignorant attitude of the public towards it, we do strikes, bandh etc but no body asks for the justification and even if it is given there is no one to countercheck it.
It is more like a nexus between the ministers (off course petroleum) and the oil companies and who
kows that in the future to come it may come out as mother of all scams, which will once again bypass like the others in the like the others in the past which the common man will forget very soon as they have been habituated.

Regards

Pradip

Good Article, excellent suggestions. We all should demand exact pricing structure.

I learnt in one rediff article that petrol prices in neighbouring countries are cheaper- Pak Rs 17/Lit, Indonesia Rs 22/Lit

Write to / check with your friends / relatives in neighbouring countries and collect country-wise prices & lets all know and compare prices demanding correct pricing

We must understand tha he Government , the so-called our Gover Government, takes away the major part of our earning by excise duty , sales tax and on the taxes like customs duty , excose duty, sales tax , seive tax, surchareg . etc etc on all the products we buy for our family. Besides it takes away Income Tax and surcharege , on it . The stage Government far its part levies .sales , tax ,surchare , service taxe ans a whole set of other taxes and uties on almost all things we need and buy.
Really we are allowed to enjoy only a pittace of our earning and we are working and earning for he families of the politicians .
The only way to put an end to this total internal exploitaitn by politicians ,is to REJECT THEM IN ELECTION.
People not only remember the personms who are in power today and totally reject hem in election and educasted and convince all friends and relatricves to ensure theyalso reject the political parties that are harbouring exploiters now . The adament collection of money bfrom the people by way of tax is to syophen them for personal benefit later in the name of schemes. If they are interested really in thepeople , they do not have to squeeze the people .

supply and demand....
by Alok on Jul 11, 2006 03:13 PM

We pay so much as
a. we need petrol for everyday things
b. the govt and private sectors realise this
c. so they pull up the price.
d. they also make cars cheap ;-)

The idea is simple supply and demand, it has nothing to do with the fact that existing oil wells can/cannot supply oil, or more cannot be produced without an increase in price.
Anything which becomes a necessity attracts inflation, perfect from the Tax collector and the Revenue dept's view point. Thank god he made air free! :) or hush! now they will charge a price on that (VAT if your air is clean so people in hill stations pay more ;-) ..?
To me the govt and certain players seem more of a "how much money can I collect" agency rather than a "how much can I give back to people to make their lives easier" agency.

It is the elocation of oil companies that the prices are increases world wide hence we are also increases instead of swaping the ideas such as 1)Stopping the expences on highly elitist city-based and dangerous motor-sport events. 2)Advertisement 3)Internal expences on overall activities 4)Incresing the OEE of production 5)Total effectiveness 6)Lucrative facilities on employees.

Lastly the customers have to bear the expences directly or from the govt. subsidy.

At least there is someone who is bothered about the hike in petrol prices. I expected a breakup of the prices of the petroleum products. But it was not there in the article. I hope the author will be able to post the same in near future. Keep it up. We need to know the factual position and correct the wrong done.
