Why we pay so much for petrol?
by Preshita on Jul 11, 2006 09:34 AM

I think this is a very informative article. The author should send this to any of the news channel so that they can make a story on it and educate the general public . The rising cost of petrol is actually a mystery.
Please mail this to a news channel.

Why we pay so much for petrol.

Your article was very interesting. But if you could add the actual figures right from the raw material cost, transport, VAT, cess, processing etc and then derive the final cost of production etc then it will be more useful.

This is an intresting article and looking at the lack of information or the slow process in which we had to get it, I went to the PMO's site and typed in my query (http://pmindia.nic.in/write.htm).

Once I hit on submit, I recieved the following message:
Page cannot be displayed

Shows succiently that the Govt. does not even want to listen to us.

Hi! Veeresh,it is very methodical indeed, I will add some indicators.Kindly ask for the balance sheet for the last 10 years of these oil giants and should be scutinized at Comptroller General level or the Company Law board.Apart from inflated salaries which are dictated even by the Petroleum Officers Union barrels of oils are generally mssing in rail freight over the years which are charged as bad debts.Unlike other countries the prices are not controlled by ministry by the power broker attaches who act as conduits between the ministry and the companies.

Excellent point.... Instead of sponsoring such motor racing events and wasting huge money on that, why dont the oil companies come out and directly help the people in need. there are hell a lot of others who can proudly sponsor those events. why them? One can say, even without sponsoring any events or advertising, they still make a lot of profit.. a lot of them...
And the government, i am afraid is giving up to the pressure of these oil companies who are always greedy for money. They do take a lot of pains in getting the contracts for oil and shipping them. I do appreciate that. but once they get the taste of money, its simply irresistible and no matter what, they want more.. the govt. have to keep them on a check. but unfortunately, it is not able to do so. Not everyone of those idiots that we have sent to support us will back them... with such a hung parliament, the country cant expect any more than this...

Good luck India!!! Jai Hind!!

Cheers
Joe

Why we pay so much for petrol..?
by Shankar Iyer on Jul 11, 2006 07:04 AM

I totally agree with Mr.Veresh, where in so much money seems to be wasted. In fact during the Gulf War Air India had imposed a surcharge for ferrying Indian citizens from Kuwait to India. We still do not know wether that particular surcharge has been taken out now that the Gulf war is over..??!! Or is it still existing in the costing under some other nomenclature...??!!

Somebody need to ask and get answers.
Wether the right to information act will play it's rightful role is yet to be seen and observed. As many of the issues cannot be entertained due to "technical" reason. And I would not be surprised if there a new category of lawyers sprouting with the name " RIGHT TO INFORMATION" lawyers to fight for the justice of the common man..!!

Please get deeper into this and lat's find out the real reason for the high price of petrol..

Nice view. But as Mr.Subroto Bagchi(MindTree)said in an article \" In the name of India\"

We, being an argumentative nation love to endlessly debate every issue till it has been beaten to death.

We discuss, we wait for some one will handle it.. We w\'t vote nor our Vote effects... Taken Freedom for Free, Democracy for granted :)

Why we pay more!
by Concerned Indian on Jul 11, 2006 05:05 AM

Refinery gate prices have moved from about Rs 8 to Rs 20 per litre. Taxes have moved from Rs 20 to Rs 40. Govt is charging only Rs 30 in tax, instead of Rs 40 that they should charge. Oil cos bear this Rs 10 difference and lose money on this. Govt gives them Rs 5 in oil bonds to keep them alive. This is the govt that cares for the "Aam Aadmi". Still oil cos losing money - so every few months govt raises oil prices. Wonder when they get the idea to lower tax rates instead!

Anyone wondered whether Speed and other branded fuels are really good? The only difference between branded and regular fuels is that they have about 1L of additive for 4000L of fuel. Since the branded fuels are about Rs 3 more expensive than regular, it is a very expensive additive indeed, working out to about Rs 12,000 per Litre!

When you look deeper, you see that you are paying the money not for the additive, but for the privilige of seeing Narain Karthikeyan smile at you. No offence, Narain is a great driver and someone we should be proud of - but does his smile really improve mileage in my car? If you knew that the entire extra cost for branded fuels was because of marketing, will you pay more for them?
