Citizens suffer from someone's sins
by Nitin Agarwal on Oct 28, 2005 02:22 PM

Let me make it clear, People are making God out of Murthy, which is a misconception. Murthy started Infosys, to make his fortune as a primary concern, and in the process may others did get jobs. But this would eventually have happened, even if Murthy would not have been there. As some other employee of PCS or TCS would have done it, jst that he was at the right place and and at the right time. Now, to help promote Karnataka, the local politicians have really gone out of there way to pamper the IT big bosses, and now they are so used to this special treatment that they want everything on their terms. These IT firms have a false notion that they are doing the greatest service to the state. However the fact is that IT industry does not contribute even a single penny to the state government out of the revenues earned...And they expect the state government, which is not getting any revenues should build infrastructure on a massive scale for them. Now the goverment has a whole state to look after to, and with limited resources it cannot cater to the rapidly growing infrastructure needs of the city. It would be fair if all the state goverment revoke all the excemptions given to IT sector.

Comments on What Mr Gowda Said
by alok misra on Oct 28, 2005 02:15 PM

I am myself an Engineer, Iwas responsibile for one of the earliest computerization in a power utilityabroad. Day and day out I look into Itapplications- I did all my Degrees from IIT Mumbai.
The question thnat I have asked myself often- what have I doe for others on the street. The It has cchanged the way we work, live and do things but it has not yet effected people on the Road the way we will like it to be.There is digital divide existing. With Time it will be covered - one project that we recently started is empowering people in Villages at the medical worker level to detect early onset of Cancer. This could help.More such efforts might be needed. It has changed social structure to some extent- people from Middle class families sudenly find themselves among the have's.Previously they were no where. Someotgher things It has done- people who were not upto the mark in coveted professins now fibd themselves very much coveted if they have the skill sets.
Mr Gowda is right when he says thatIt is not all that what will take us out to prosperity- for some it may be true

Devegowda Vs Mr. Murthy: ultimately loss for Karnataka
by John kiran on Oct 28, 2005 02:07 PM

It cannot be exactly judged "WHO IS WRONG?".Mr. Devegowda must not be taken lightly as many people do it. If he is always wrong in his statements, he would have never become a political leader again. Mr.Murthy, on the other hand, has worked wonderful in his field to bring name for karnataka at international level. But, what he has done unto the poor? Though there might be some political gain for DG, he often raises his voice aginst any scandle. IT people just need good infrastructure for the self growth. However, their growth amounts to the economy of Karnataka. So ultimately it is a temporary loss for Baangalore development.
But when it is the question of land aquisition, Mr.DG is more right comapred to Mr. Murthy.

Nobody is Perfect!!!
by Venkatesha on Oct 28, 2005 01:27 PM

Gowda should remember that nobody is perfect. I complete agree that Infosys has made lot of money, if that is the case, Gowda too has made a lot of money.

My father-in-law always tells me that, Gowda use to travel in cycle in 1970s, and today he travels in all types of vehicles, he as amassed more wealth without doing any hardwork. In that case, Infosys has worked very hard to become what it is today.

I am no messaih of Infosys or Gowda, but he should stop complain and do things what he needs to do, contribute towards the creation of future india.

An expert in the field should have been appointed
by Dr T S Raman on Oct 28, 2005 07:43 AM

It is unfortunate but unavoidable that this is being discussed by lay people who don't realise that special skills are required for the job of setting up an international airport. What qualifications did Mr Murthy possess to have been given this assignment? As far as I know, there are at least a dozen people in India with expertise and great experience in the field, some of whom are considered brilliant.
The late Piloo Mody is credited with the witticism, "In India, Jagjivan Ram's views on art are more respected than Hussain's, and Nehru's views on architecture more than mine. Hence, I an architect, joined politics to be heard and respected." One should add, Morarji Desai's views on nutrition and health were more respected than those of doctors and scientists; and a certain plant breeder is being currently considered to be an expert on women's empowerment, nutrition, medicinal herbs, irrigation, economics, rural development, ecology, biotechnology, and what not.
It appears that Mr Murthy has taken the opportunity to wriggle out of the untenable position. An expert in Civil Aviation should have been appointed as Chairman at the beginning itself.

Gowda vs Murthy, er Gowda vs Bangalore!
by deepa patil on Oct 27, 2005 07:50 PM

Articles over the past few days have included how West Bengal and China (both led by so called Communist governments!) were wooing Capitalist Infy and other IT majors, even as Mr Gowda, was trying his very best to save us Bangloreans from them.
Er, after all, who amongst us wants better public transport, or for that matter better jobs and the feasibility of a better future for our children, etc, etc?!!
Wonder, if (1) Mr Gowda was working in tandem with his Left allies, to destroy Bangalore even as they build up Kolkata, at our expense and (2) the Left in turn was destroying the IT industry in India (with the exception of the Left controlled states), to curry favour with their comrades in China?

Sounds far fetched? Think about it. They all win Mr Gowda (his vote bank as he repeatedly told us is not, us Bangaloreans. the Left & the Chinese (they see Bangalore as the primary flag bearer of the Indian IT industry....

So fellow Bangaloreans & Indians - its time to tacle the son of the soil, before he drives us all into the mud!
