sad
by Ipsita S on Sep 23, 2011 10:22 PM

i am very sad at this. my condolences to her parents and dear ones. Teachers, parents and elders should impart life skills and not just bookish knowledge. and also teach people to be a bit considerate and feel empathy. I am doubly sad that some people on this board are making grossly insensitive remarks on the girl. Let's not be in a hurry to judge.

Why are only men targetted?
by Anandh Sundar on Sep 23, 2011 10:21 PM  | Hide replies

If this had happened to a man(committing suicide after being ditched), then comments below would have called him a wimp and the police would not have registered a case against his GF for abetment. Granted that he may have acted like a jerk etc, but this does not look like a crime.

yes. certainly. the world is so unfair to men. Millions of men are killed off every year at the fetus stage. Then men have to contend with complete discrimination while growing up. Men have to face molestation and harassment in buses and other public places. As if all this isn't enough, they have to go through the humiliation of prospective in-laws and bride coming to "see" and judge and ask inane questions. To top it all, men have to pay dowry and sometimes be killed for not paying enough. So i am totally with you! The dice is loaded so much against the poor men.

@Ipsita -agreed,can read between the lines...but not completely. This may be a male-dominated society only when the concerned male has the right to decide for himself. But when a woman cries foul then the entire society turns up against the man no matter whose side the mistake would be. This is one such example, no one knew what happened between them and if the female doesn't have the guts to face problems in life, you can imagine how much of a torture he would have been through,

ok, let me see. You say you don't know what happened between them. So the logical thing to do would be to not judge. Yet, you are so quick to cast the girl as "not having guts".

Ipsita, life is not easy for men either. just because they dont complain, we shouldnt think they dont have problems. It is the men who mostly die in war. In fact one of the reason men are not killed in womb or childhood is that they are needed as bodyguards for family. how many girls get beaten by stronger classmates in school ? yet its something boys face regularly. In fact, boys also face sexual abuse and molestation by stronger men, but they are too ashamed to say it. how many women will be willing to take the burden of providing bread and butter and shelter to spouse. whats so humiliating about prospective in-laws coming to see. If the girl is being scrutinised by the prospective in-laws, the boy is also scrutinised by girls parents. so why should only girl feel humiliation ? its in her mind and because of her need to marry. If you are independant and have the courage to live without depending on anyone, and also can conduct yourself properly so that you can convince your parents , the society's discrimination will not affect you. I am telling from my experience. I also used to say all feminist bullshit. Now I have worked hard like a man to earn my freedom and independance. Today I dont feel affected by society, but I have also understood what men feels when I have survived without a father or husband.

strawman's argument. Did I ever say life is easy for men? Something specific was said by someone and i posted a rebuttal. Feel free to stay on the topic. Don't unload your assumptions on me.
Others commenting - get a grip. by labeling an argument "feminist bs", you are being no different than people who raise questions on a rape victim's character, when she complains. Anyway, i have to intention to get into a mud slinging match with vermins. I have responded to a specific person and a specific post. An on-the-topic response is welcome.

She could have deleted her account and stopped using facebook for a few days. Suicide is over reaction. IIM does not seem to be doing a good job teaching "self management".

IIM's and IIT's already put so much mental stress on thes young minds. Education in India never teaches students to handle stress. Thats what we learn the hard way in our life.

I think Facebook just sparked the incident.

@Sameer - I just hope you don't have any brothers, sisters or other family members or friends who count on your help and/or compassion in the time of need. Because, it almost seems like, instead of providing a helping hand, you would lecture them to make sure they realize how deserving they are of the unfortunate situation.

Emkay

Supporting someone in time of need is one thing and ridiculing someone for ending their life over nothing is another thing.

Make no mistake about it, if any of my family members do something like this, They will not have any form f compassion form my end.

I will grieve for my loss, but not sympathetize that they lost their lives over nothing

@Sameer - Regarding your post below on this topic elsewhere, why not use facts? Your whole point here is that she used quota system. Then instead of assuming and making an ass of you and me, why not simply use facts? Facts are such wonderful things when they are ignored. Aren't they?

@emkay

I SPECULATED that she might be a quota person. Because if there is one thing I have learnt is that human beings are appreciative of things that they earn the hard way.

If someone has put in their blood and sweat into something, they will not simply destroy it over nothing. If someone has struggled and come up the hard way, he/she will not end their life over something so tivial.

This seems to be the person who has everything handed over a silver platter and hence doesn't know the value of Life.

Status update trend
by Naveen Shetty on Sep 23, 2011 05:45 PM

Today people even put status update even when they piss in the toilet. People put all the crap in their lives which includes things which are personal to show to the entire world. I have seen a friend of mine who was updating status even during the honeymoon with a post 'All set at xxxxx hotel atxxxxx'. Such people really suck.
