where is BESU Shibpur the 2nd oldest Engineering college of India and the proverbial mentor institute of the 1st IIT in KGP???this is utter crap..these people are not even aware about whats goin on in the present... the talks are going on at ministry level to upgrade it to the statuts of IITs...almost all the major industries in India as well as Foreign and universities abroad have their alumnus...wonder what kind of peer review takes place...MANY FACULTIES IN IIT S ARE PRODUCT OF THIS INSTITUTE ...kgp has about 60% of them on an avg..so does kanpur..

Ujwala Kulkarni
Proverbial Nine Pins
by Ujwala Kulkarni on Jun 10, 2011 08:14 PM

The supremacy of Engg graduates /Institutions can't be assessed on the basis of performance in JEE /AIEEE for several reasons. 12th standard is certainly not the right time for doing it (In fact it's assessment at a much earlier stage as coaching for JEE often lasts several years). The assessment needs to be done AFTER the completion of graduation. As IITians make a beeline for US right after graduation or join the Corporate honcho-monchos in their endeavour to sell shares, this has generally not happened. In the past, however, whenever IITians have tried to compete with other engg graduates, they have fallen like the proverbial nine pins. Although this isn't widely advertised it is true. The corporate honcho-monchos are, however, doing a great disservice to the community by falling for the hype and robbing people, who have a better talent for selling shares, of their rightful jobs.
