Because Govt. want to convert all IITs into QUOTA Universities like Aligarh M-U because QUTO Students (with 10 % marks )pay only 10% of what a general catagory student pays.
when the syllabus, examination pattern, malpractices etc across the country differ from state to state and board to board, how can weightage for class XII marks can be considered. In AP, the corporate colleges for some of their prestigeous branches where they are giving IIT coaching, as they are concentrating on only IIT, there is not enough time for studying XII syllabus of the board which is very vast. They simply give all the questions of all 4 set of public examinations. Students just study these questions. For science paracticals only 3 parctials from each subject are only done. No one is bothered about this - the govt. officials who are getting big sums, the parents, the students, the corrupt press no one is bothered about this. No one is opening their mouths. The students studying at other colleges are at a disadvantage position as far as marks in board exams are concerned.
IIT's are doing the right thing. When some of the schools and unheard of private engg. colleges charge about 50K an year, what's wrong with India's prestigious technical institutions doing so? In view of the mounting costs of education in terms of infrastructure and better salaries to the faculty, the move is perfectly justified... an ex-IITian
DOES THIS COUNTRY NEED ONLY CASH RICH STUDENTS INSTEAD OF BRAINY STUDENTS WHO COMES FROM ALL SOCIETIES........HONOURABLE PM PLS THINK ABOUT OUR COUNTRY FUTURE .....ANY WAY SPENDING CRORES OF MONEY ON FREE POWER AND SO ON ANOTHER FEW CRORES IF YOU LOOSE ON EDUCATION DOES NOT HARM INDIAN ECONOMY!!!!!!!!
ALthough, fees hike keeping in mind the international standards is not steep, but it will be quite difficult for middle class to meet this expenditure. But it is not clear why this suddden jump is required i.e. a 5 fold increase. I will appreciate if IIT committee can publish a white paper giving atleast a justification for this showing income & expenditure in a transparenet manner. Further, proposal to consider 2 marks is a welcome step as it will increase the focus of students on base of science instead of focussing on coaching centers.

Why the govt. running the educational programs in rural areas and for financial weak people.just to make literate them nothing else. IITs too costly Private Colleges already commercial hubs.I think the govt. going to make the top class education for top class people only.
