Infuse a ban on IIT/IIM students from using copy and paste.They should write a diff. programme each time they need to use such a facility.Every thing is a hype my friend ....
Too much reservation based on cast basis,the political and bureaucratic intervention and timid mindset are our problem. Uplift the intellectually eligible people with financial support and stop cast based reservation. Encourage research and development. Invest money for research. Make necessary changes in programmes of study periodically, rather than reinventing the wheel, to reflect present day requirement in mind. Then only we can improve our standards.

current speaker of LokSabha is too reservation candidate of IFS , even though her father was an CM and deputy PM
are not universities. Not even close. Universities do research in various subjects from Theoretical Physics to Microbiology, publish in journals like Nature/Science, file patents that mint them money and award PhDs in 100s of disciplines.
In west IITs will only qualify as colleges/vocational tech schools. India just doesnt have a university that ranks amongst top 500 or even top 1000. Even IITians have to get a degree from a real university (MS/PhD) when they compete at the world level.
Having said that there certainly are good specialized research institutes in India like TIFR, IISc's etc. and Govt should support them more.
In west engineering is looked down upon by sciences and that is why Ivy's have stronger science (math/physics) programs than engineering. Here the opposite is true. Every ram/shyam just want to be an engineer and the result is that we have a glut of BTechs/MBAs.

Indians had barely less than 10 % literacy around independence. of them the percentage of scientists, engineers and technologists was negligible. technology and engineering is derivate of pure sciences. when the general prosperity level increases and opportunities for rewarding career exists sufficiently, students with aptitude for basic sciences will opt for it.
no need to deride the present clamour for engineering degrees.

How many universities other than IITs publishes papers and doing some good research.You may leave IISc or TIFR as these institutes are meant for these.But they are also doing nothing great as compared with their western counterparts. All CSIR labs are flops, doing nothing in the field of science and technology. Its not the problem with IITs, it is problem with Indian mind set for going always with shortcuts.

Euro came into being higher than US because it was designed that way. If they had brought in a new Euro, which is equivalent to 2 current Euro, then it would be weaker. Think before you speak.
South Africa is in its 20year of independence and has universities better than IIT.
