Forget women. It is even unsafe for men to travel alone
by juxtaposer@rediffmail.com on Sep 09, 2010 04:29 PM  | Hide replies

What a stupid question! Haven't you heard stories of how often people who are alone are robbed in India. When even men are not safe, how can women be safe.

More empowerment to women
by mia_khalid@rediffmail.com on Sep 09, 2010 01:10 AM  | Hide replies

Its still unsafe for women but the time is coming when women could travel safely all over India.
My experience says the women is more safe in south or west rather than north.
% of women should be increased in police and other government offices not only this will lead to womens safety but also decrease the corruption level in these departments.

Regarding your point of increasing women in police:

1. Police will need protection then - UP's SI incident

2. How did you get the idea that women will make the police force less corrupt. Its not about Gender, Corruption is a system. Hard, almost impossible to stay out of it.

You will understand only if you know the working of Police force either first hand or when some of your trusted acquaintances work in police.

Horrible to power terrible to say the least

Agreed. Even now the women cannot travel alone spl. during the night time. If accompanied by someone, still the dhabas on the highway see lots of women and family enjoying late night meals.
North - Going from Delhi towards Punjab. Not sure of the other routes.

Let us give our child a better place to live in
by ANURAG BHATNAGAR on Sep 08, 2010 04:02 PM

I do not think there is any difference between india or UAE or any other country and also between any religion. There are good people in every religion and in all countries who are co existing with some of the very bad elements who are demolishing therir own institutions may it be their country or their religion. It is but important that the situation improves and that can happen only when each one of the individual corrects himselves and keep a vigil so that our place becomes a better place to live in. One major input in this regard will be promotion of values in the young ones and abstinance from hatered.

Hi Chaddi,
I hope you are wearing your name not shirt-trouser because they are western concept. I live in China and never read anywhere that women's cloth equal to culture though they are more culturally conscious than us. Is our 5000 yrs culture is so fragile that it can be destroyed a girl who is wearing trouser or skirt. I just wonder what you eat in morning.

Women in India and Travel
by shanthi shenoy on Sep 08, 2010 01:18 PM  | Hide replies

Gone are the days when women used to sit at home and prepare food and look after the kids. Today more than 25% of the working women are using their own two whelers or even cars for traveling. And to my knowledge , I have not seen any one abusing, teasing or harrasing the fairer sex. But if the teanaged girls who travel in two whelers with half pants shoing their ass will defintely land into trouble. Dress conciousness is compulsary and if women drive and work without giving muche attention to the opposite sex, there will not be chances of any trouble even in India.

Yes, it is more a mutual interest of both sides. If you do not care you can travel all over India without a scatch. Make all the men your brother. You will be safe.

Be proud of Indians also. No women are harrassed in cities unless they make a show off their parts. One should be on the road with proper dress.

Syed Janwar.. I am proud to be muslim too... and I am also staying in Dubai since last 15 years. I think you come to conclusion by reading newspapers. UAE newspapers are censored and thus they do not come out with the fact. Many womans are being raped, molested, teased in UAE.. But crimes are not declared.
Do you remember the heroinous murder took place of a child last year on Eid Day ? It was done by local person to a pakistani child... Do you remember that? The same is happening for woman also..but media is censored here.
