More or less, they are safe in India and are respectable comparing to any part of the world. But sometimes we find, women not behaving in Indian way viz in their dress up or behaviour in their expression, such situation may embrass them.
Of course in a population of 120 crores, stray cases are always exceptions.

How many have you been too? I have been to plenty and developed countries do have better protection for women. The reason is simple law & order. They got money to pay well those people in law & order and also corruption is less because officers are paid decently. This causes people to be scared of any cop or officer in most of the developed countries. The reason women in India is not that safe is not because people are bad or something..bad people are everywhere but law & order is better in developed countries compared to ours. Haven't you seen people bribing traffic cops every where in India to escape from getting ticket for traffic infraction? No, it doesn't happen in developed countries and main reason is because there is less corruption as people are paid well and dont need corrupt money. Ofcourse there are exceptions but this is by and large the case.

hohoho ..."provided if women are within their limits" ... no one is supposed to break laws. What do you mean by "within their limits"? Who defines "limits"? Each individual have their own "limit"! The answer is law & order. If a girl is not breaking the law then she is "within her limits" and no one has any right to violate her whether you consider her "within limit" or not. Only men without principles can use that as an excuse to harm a woman.

Forget women. It is even unsafe for men to travel alone
by juxtaposer@rediffmail.com on Sep 09, 2010 04:29 PM  | Hide replies

What a stupid question! Haven't you heard stories of how often people who are alone are robbed in India. When even men are not safe, how can women be safe.
