Kalam is a highly hyped pseudo intellectual. He is not a great scientist as he is made out to be.He greedily tried for a second term as president! Thank God nobody listened!

I don't make any such claim or prtend as if I am, unlike some pseudos do.VenkyRamakrishnan is a great scientist and very honest and forthright. India can be proud of him and not of some pseudos!

So what if he tried to be president.has he not the right to be prsident?perhaps u have not observed the poll in every news paper at that time.Every poll favoured A Kalam with huge support.Only since hetried to be president he is bad .Most of the Indian want him second term as president

Mr Mohanty, in case you have forgotten, people really do not directly elect President of India. So polls do not have any meaning. I can safely say that had he stood for elections for the seat of say Member of Parliament I bet he will lose his deposit. Mr Kalam is a creation of media who for some reason have decided to glorify his achievements and common man without knowledge of DRDO and its role has swallowed it.

You are absolutely right; he was at best a mediocre scientist; His missile programme today is in tatters and many even within DRDO have begun questioning his numerous mainly publicity stunts at making india self reliant. For the record, Indian armed forces have never used technology developed by DRDO. The only accolade you can grant him he was PR man personified and media savvy by talking big. DRDO cannot retain/attract any talent and ISRO under CNR Rao has done much better. Only thing is truely good scientists at IISC, CSIR labs are languishing because they do not have Mr Kalam's PR skills thats all. And we all know that president of India is a dummy without any real decision making powers.
Kalam was truely a great President. It is a pity and shame on us that we could not have him elected for the second term. Somehow Cong has a penchant for bringing down democratic institutions- take a look at Pratibha Patil, Naveen Chawla, PD Dinakaran etc.

True...
People are dying of hunger and poverty and these intellectuals are trying to have records which have been done by others 30 years before...!!!
Whole idea is to stay in the govt, do a govt. job, get the govt. salary, open all of them in south and get all the Padma XXX awards so that ur life is smooth.

People dying of hunger and poverty is no excuse to stop development. In future it will be a known fact that India designed and developed moon mission and accomplished it, people viz. pakis who will hate to read that fact in future will naturally not feel good today.

Americans spent more than 100 times than India for space research programs. R&D is a long term approach and I am sure with people like Kalam there was motivation for many to be part of DRDO and ISRO. In fact many have left India to occupy positions in NASA and there were many Indians involved in different programs in America on space mission. People like you who considers that programs by DRDO and ISRO are lethargic and absolete do not have any vision for future. India do earns millions of dollars in space research programs for putting the satelites of many countries in orbit and also allocate space in our satelites for which they earn year on year. India cannot be like Bangladesh or Pakistan where the money is spent on feeding the poor or on jihadis.

VERY TRUE. HE IS A GREAT MAN OF LEARNING AND MOST IMPORTANT A VERY HUMBLE AND SIMPLE HUMAN BEING WITHOUT ANY SHOW OFF.
This article comes at a right time..when i am re-reading his decade old autobiography "Wings of Fire". Truly Kalam is a great human. A humble one. But Make no mistake, you can feel his "Agression" when he talks of self sufficiency and Making our Defence Capabilities strong. He is a go-getter.
Hats of to you Sir...I wish More leaders like you come back to DRDO and inspire a new life into all the organizations of DRDO.
He was above party politics and tried to ignite the minds of youth with the vision to make india superpower. We should have presidents like him, not like rubber stamps appointed by Kongressi.
