Light meditation works wonders
by Manmath Rajput on Mar 17, 2010 02:42 PM

Just before going to bed, sit in lotus position in the bed only - close your eyes and focus on center point of your eyes (called the third eye). Your can say the word 'OM' too while exhaling- but do it very slowly. Just do it for good 3 to 5 mins and lay down. A good night is waiting for you.

It's just that unknowingly, we take the issues to bed which we faced during whole day and keep on thinking about them endlessly losing a good sleeping time.

Control the thoughts

Control the thoughts...I might be the youngest here, but I have suffered from insomnia periodically, and the biggest cause I could think of is the Tensed thoughts, the more I thought about how depressing the situation was the more i was loosing my sleep, I had to start controlling my thoughts and removing them from my mind, It was diffcult but it paid off, still sometimes I do get carried away with my thoughts but more or less now I am in control...I used start thinking all the negative things that can happen to me, or the day dreaming, my own imaginary world i used to create which used to make me more and more depressed and I was kind of addicted to it, I had to look within myself as to where I am going wrong, I still remember I have a week by sleeping just 4-5 hrs, it was going crazy for me, through out the day i used to remain irritated and restless, but after I started this practice of controlling what I think, I stopped day dreaming and creating imaginary world of my won with all possible kind of trouble and their outcomes without any of them actually happening, since then I have started to better sleep, the only way out is to be mentally relaxed everytime of ur day, ppl think tht they will not do anything unless they become tensed about something, and ppl call this by a fancy name called seriousness about doing something, but I think we can do anything without being tense and so called serious about it, you just have to put in effort without worrying abt outcome..

Exteremely true...most of the time it happens that we are so engrossed in our thoughts that we can not sleep

I also suffered the same situation. The best remedy is that just assume that you are not going to think anything when u hit the bed. It works.

Also, if you are not able to sleep then just relax and lay still. Do not panich by thinking that time is passing by. Just relax, world will not crumble if you sleep late at night. :)

Almost every article on rediff has some sort of error in English language.

I am a retired Bank Manager.I suffered from lack of sleep for nearly 20 years and on medicines for sleep. I decided and stopped taking medicines for sleep about 8 months ago.I am tautght a simple method which in me works wonders. I take my food at 7/7.30 pm. i go to bed around 9/9.30. I lye down in my bed and do deep breating(only thro nostrils) 24 times. Then I inhale thro nostrils and exhale saying OM 24 times slowly.I am now having good sleep and dont get awakened.

all the counting sheep and other methods will never work if you are tensed. It is simply impossible to sleep without medication. an insomnia sufferer.
