hav u ever heard that a farmer is sufferring from insomnia or a labour is sufferring from insomnia...Sleep happens only when ur body gets tired...If u not filling sleepy in the night thats because u r too lazy and through out the day u hav not done enogh work so that ur body requiers recharge... hav a hard day u dont hav take any peel or yoga or do anything... Just go to bed lie down in a relaxed position and u will fall asleep..MOST tried & tested method through decadeds......
I use a light workout , followed by warm bath (not hot bath) and some meditation (which is combined with my evening puja). This worked for me well sofar however stressful the day may be.
Some days are very hard. So just before bed I practice Shavasana for 15/20 minutes and listen to some soothing music on very low volume.
1.Never eat full at night 2.Take a hot water bath 3.Read... Read.... till you drop 4.Go straight to bed 5.Sleeping position should be flexible and if you are not an atheist, Pray and foccussed on one point while you mediatate

Your points are mostly ok. except the third one...some times if u find an interesting book...you will read throughout... so i want to correct as read some boring books...
i never sleep ontime but the moment i plan to read some book or a novel i get sleepy very fast and sleep within no time. I am sure this trick could work for some others also.
Have a nice hot water bath. Have a light dinner, and hit the bed... you will sleep like a baby.
Even better... work out hard... have a hot water bath, and then a light dinner and then hit the sack.
Not sure if this has already been suggested.
Also, do the right thing.. be honest... do your duties for your family and for the country, in the right legal manner. Don't dominate and spoil anyone's life/freedom. Stop believing in super stitions... Treat your spouse, children well, like equals. Don't hoard money. Be a good citizen by following the law, whichever law it is (don't ask why should I do it.. or why aren't others doing it) You will have peace of mind, which is a necessary ingredient for agood night's sleep.

Sorry one in three indians are suffered...by insomnia...
I used to (And still some times..) have this probs...Some of the ways I coped with it:
1. Start the night by feeling light and good..take a good hot shower, chat with family/friends, a nice dinner. A cofee or a drink might help. The main point is to sort out any recurring thoughts/worries at the early stages in before sleep, as these are the root causes which if not resolved would most certainly disturb sleep.
2. Watch a movie/T.V.Show ,comedy , or a book, or any such experience which you enjoy. Get soaked into it...you would now start feeling normal and much lighter and yawn. Then crash into bed!
Also...Keep stretching once a while and you'll certainly find that yawn...
Yoga Makes a huge difference. The stretching poses in yoga definitely help you feel much lighter and supple.
