Good & Risky
by VASUDEV RAO on Jan 09, 2010 10:26 PM

Nice to read the adventure. You haven't mentioned about Belgaum, a great place. The road from Pune upto Haveri - immediately after Hubli is good. Then there is no road at all till Chitradurga. The best road part I have ever enjoyed is between Kolhapur to Belgaum. Such a travel is a bit risky considering the traffic sense & zipping cars. Also wonder why the Golden Quadrangle limping after congress came to power?.

Best part of the drive
by RAVI APARANJI on Jan 09, 2010 10:46 AM

Good show pal. Best part of this stretch is the drive between Dharwad and Belgaum and again from beyond Belgaum about 50 kms away. Its very pictureque and if you crossed this section at night, then you really missed it. I keep doing the distance from Bangalore to Kolhapur every year (though in my car) and never once felt bored esply on this stretch.

Also, to answer your question on what you mean: you mean that you somehow got indoctrinated by Nehru's Stalinist idea that everyone must be forced to learn a single language because, well, Nehru said so.

It is the same in states like UP, Bihar, MP and Rajasthan too. Signs are in English or the state language.

If you call Hindi as a state language then that reflects your narrow-minded-ness. I'm not a big fan of Nehru but fact is at that point if we had get away quikcly from a feeling of ghulami and that means away from English then Hindi was the only viable option given the majjority. The local politicians narrow-minded as they are (Karnataka is the prime example of the same) were able to mislead a even ignorant populace into believing that Hindi is a threat. Learning new language is never a threat and it is absolutely possible to have these language live in harmony.
Hindi was the dominant language of the freedom struggle and was the most widely spoken language and still is.
So don't call Nehru for what he did. Look in your backyard - talk to your dads, uncles and granddad on what they did during the last 50 years except getting misled by the local politicians.

This is sheer parochialism on your part. Learning a new language is a complete waste of time. In fact, the original poster admitted that Hindi people did not travel to the South and hence were clueless about milestones in Karnataka. So why should Kannada people write in Hindi and then learn that language so that they can read what they have written. Seems stupid to do that.

You can have multiple languages. That is the point you don't seem to get, but you got indoctrinated by Nehru that there must only be one language.

As for Hindi itself, notice that Hindi speaking areas are the most backward in India, especially after liberalization. Your claim about independence movement is wrong. Most freedom fighters were non-Hindi people. Of the masses who were incarcerated in Kala Pani, most were Telugus and Tamils.

I think i m just like u. My farthest distance has been goa from pune. But u r better than me. Its a great thrill riding a bike for such a long distance. U have a Yamaha. I suggest u try it out with a pulsar. I have a suggestion for u. Avoid driving in the wee hours of morning as this is the most dangerous time for drivers. They tend to sleep after driving in the night.Best of luck!

Misleading!

A bike is a bi-cysle and not a motor-bike. Please get this primary fact right and then base articles.
I have done B'lore-Goa in 14 hours way back on my RX-100...

Remember you are reading an Indian website. For us, Bike is the short for Motor-bike, and Cycle is short for Bi-cycle.

So, keep your American terminology to yourself.

btw, it is spelled 'bi-cycle', not bi-cysle. Please get his primary fact right before posting comments.
