How to detect transparent mirror..
by Amit Jha on Feb 10, 2010 10:49 AM  | Hide replies

I was reading a response below regarding identification of two way mirror which is false.

This is how it should really be done:
Transparent mirrors are most obviously distinguishable from ordinary mirrors in that
they're not hung on walls as ordinary mirrors are, but they're set into walls (or doors) as
windows are. In other words, if there's a wall behind a mirror, the mirror is almost
certainly an ordinary one — a transparent mirror would be part of the wall itself. Also, the
lighting in front of a transparent mirror must be much brighter than the lighting on the
other side (where the hidden observers are) for it to work effectively, and some light leaks
through from the brighter side to the dimmer side.
According to the folks in Mirropane's technical support group, you can use these factors to
your advantage by pressing your eyes up against the mirror and cupping your hands around
them (to block out the light from the room you're in): if you're truly dealing with a
transparent mirror, you should be able to see at least a little something of the open area
behind it. Also, rapping on the mirror should provide an aural clue: ordinary mirrors have
backings and are usually placed against walls, so rapping on them will generally produce
dull thuds; transparent mirrors and set into walls with open areas behind them, so rapping
on them should produce much more open, hollow sounds. These methods of detection are
more reliable than the fingernail test and should be preferred.

How to Determine a 2-way mirror?

While changing clothes in Hotels and textile showrooms, it is very important to make sure that the mirror is not a two way.

Have you seen recent advertisement of M/S SAINT GOBAIN GLASSES shown in Television? If yes then you must have known about 2 Way mirror.

Not to scare you, but to make sure that you aware. Some of the hotels and textile showrooms cheat the customers this way and watch privately.

How to determine if a mirror is 2 way or not?

When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc., how many of you know for sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror hanging on the wall is a real mirror, are actually a 2-way mirror i.e., they can see you, but you can't see them. There have been many cases of people installing 2-way mirrors in female changing rooms or bathroom or bedrooms.

It is very difficult to positively identify the surface by just looking at it. So, how do we determine with any amount of certainty what type of mirror we are looking at?

CONDUCT THIS SIMPLE TEST:

Test 1: Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if there is a "GAP" between your fingernail and the image of the nail, then it is a "GENUINE" mirror. However, if your fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image of your nail, then BEWARE, IT IS A 2-WAY MIRROR!(there may be someone seeing you from the other side). So remember, every time you see a mirror,do the "fingernail test." It doesn't cost you anything.

It is simple

Check Mirors
by tarun sampat on Feb 10, 2010 10:19 AM

Do you know how to check if the mirror in the changing rooms and bathrooms of hotels and shopping malls are two way mirrors? In a two way mirror the person on the other side can also see you. To make sure that the mirror is not a two way mirror just place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface. If there is a gap between your fingernail and the image of the nail then it is a genuine mirror. If your fingernail directly touches the image of your nail then it is a two way mirror. Make sure you check this the next time you use a changing room in a shopping mall & hotels.
