I personally think that India is the most racist nation in the world. We have strong emotions of being north indians , south indians , brahmins , shudra's .... The irony is , even tough there is a huge resurgence of educated middle class , this division doesn't seem to go away. Or maybe we dont want it to go away.
I was very surprised when I was recently introduced to a person of Indian origin in NYC. With 10 mins of conversation , he asked me if I was brahmin. I asked him how do you define a brahmin , like a man with a certain specs , he was mincing words.....Needless to say , the conversation ended there.
As a nation we need to grow out of this idiotic stigma. At least we should talk more openly about it.

what is bad about asking if you are brahmin? some pople like to guess origin of people. It may or may not be anyhing about you. If he thought you were a shudra he may not have asked you ( cos they may be offended - but really if you are one and someone asks you- it has nothing to do with you) just like people in US may ask you if you are from india.

bcos ... white skin syndrome in india is related to the Aryan Vs Dravidian phenomena. It is very subtle but it is racist.

i completly agree that india is the most racist country in the world with the most mentally messed up people in the world.
I disagree with the fact that Fair is Beautiful... it is unfortunate that the Indian public has been misled into believing this.. becuase these fairness products want to make business by largely fooling the public.. traditionally in India, black was also considered as beautiful, until the British took over. Somehow Whiteness and Masters was being seen synonymous.. and ever since, ones that are white are considered to be better.. then the host of fairness products, only further made this wrong assumption stronger.. if at all these fairness products work, why don;t they go and sell in Africa? Its just bogus and in my opinion, black is as beatiful...

beauty comes with sharp features not with color, still a lot of people think white is beautiful including my wife..which is funny we do argue a lot..imagine my wife is a post graduate and still she has this thing in her..reason? parents they think in this direction..if a post graduate can think in this direction forget uneducated ppl..its not new british raj brought this diff and mislead indians..its in the genes, fairer ppl have a little advantage over dark skin..i work in a company where europeans work..their face look like beaten omlette but still a lot of coworkers are facinated with their look..i wonder why??? ppl say australians are racist but the biggest racist in the world in our own country..rich over poor, upper caste over lower caste, white over black, boy over girl what not???? it will take may be another century to getover with it..
In fact the color of skin does not matter than the complexion of the skin... The skin should of same tone all over the body without marks on it is a rich and toned skin - Which is more desired than a patchy fair/white skin

Its not the colour that matters, its the sex appeal. White skinned generally are not endowed with sex appeal, its the dark with facial features that appeals to either sex.
Then, what ever may be your external skin colour, the Private parts of both sex are dark only. so why all this fuss.
