We live in a country full of Hypocrites. Every Parents & the would be Grooms in this country want a Fair complexioned Girl to marry. Dark complexioned Girls are strict NO NO in many societies esp in communities like Brahmins, Jains,gujratis & Sindhis. This mentality & the obsession towards fair skin has to be changed.

The mania for fair skin extents beyond communities and regions. It is not limited to any region of people of any sect. Otherwise fairness cream market would not multiply by so many fold.
beauty comes with sharp features not with color, still a lot of people think white is beautiful including my wife..which is funny we do argue a lot..imagine my wife is a post graduate and still she has this thing in her..reason? parents, they think in this direction..if a post-graduate can think in this direction forget uneducated ppl..its not new.. british raj brought this diff and mislead indians..its in the genes, fairer ppl have a little advantage over dark skin..i work in a company where europeans work..their face look like beaten omlette but still a lot of coworkers are facinated with their look..i wonder why??? ppl say australians are racist but the biggest racist in the world is our own country..rich over poor, upper caste over lower caste, white over black, boy over girl what not???? it will take may be another century to getover with it..

Whats the big argument people? We could talk at length about racism, about being politically correct etc. But the matter is quite simple. Some like ivory skinned girls, some like dusky, may be a little less, but how does it matter? All of us have these fetishes. Some like tall men, some brawny, some thin, some get turned on by intelligent girls, some are intimidated by intelligence. At the end of the day, all that matters is how you perform when the lights are off!

indians are the most racist ppl in the world...our differences in caste especially is sickening to the core and this is especially true among brahmins the brahminical race can be completely held responsible for many of the ills of the society which prevails even to this date...the hedonistic attitude of the brahmins is appalling to say the least...although their attitudes have undergone some change but still the superiority complex which the suffer from hasnt diminished and whenever you speak to brahmin esp in the south u cant help but feel a strong undercurrent of racism

I saw many people posting messages saying that dark is as beautiful as white, and that it shouldn't matter. I was really heartened to see it, but I seriously wonder how much of this prejudice we actually carry in real life. I mean it is all very well to write 'correct' things on message board, but actually changing the minds of people - that is something.
Well I can't say I that I actually 'took up' this as an issue in real life, rather I was forced to take it up. Sadly it was a relation, in fact most of the near and dears, who used to call one of the girls as dark and so not good looking as her younger sis is cute 'n beautiful. Pathetically, the girl in question is 7 years old now (her sis is 3.5 years) and every near and dear, including her mom, grandmom (both sides) have the same issue. In fact everyone who met the sisters had the same thing to say. I had a huge fight on my hands and did manage to convince many that she was beautiful enough to be a model.
I don't really know if that is the right way to tackle the issue, nor do I think, I did a 'noble thing', by taking it up for the girl. However, I would request the people posting such passionate messages to really look around and find people who need help. It neither takes time, money, or organization skills. Mostly such things happen either our family, relations or friends. But probably it goes a long way to avoid the creation of a new generation with a similar twisted mentality.

It is only after staying in a western country like US and seeing mostly average or below average (NOT good looking ) looking so called white people that you realise that color is OVERRATED part of beauty .
