just an average or below average writer
by Rahul VA on Nov 04, 2009 05:07 PM  | Hide replies

I read the one night @.....

it is below average and wonder how it got this attention.

The author seems to be one of those who believes speaking english is education.

I found the quality of English of his writing to be on par with a Call centre agents' English!!!!!

and who are you to judge ???? all his books sell like hot cakes, so whether you like him or not, he is a successful author. No one has written anywhere that when you write novels, you need to use the toughest words and phrases. Being simple captures people's imagination and thatz why he is successful.

thats the point boss he write in the language and budget of people who buy his books (under 100 all his books) whats the point of trying to force a person to read classic if he/she dont have apptitute for that i too feel that one night @ was below avg not because of the language ( i am not competent to judge that) but because the narration etc was not good i would love to read a great classic if i can understand and afford it :) i hope you understand that we are not super lingo freak else we would have decided to study litreture that maths :)

Chetan Bhagat is Back
by ant kriz on Nov 04, 2009 05:05 PM  | Hide replies

I have read all his books.

Here are my quick reviews:
1) Five Point Someone - Very good book. Nicely told excellent sense of humor. Youth can identify to it.
2) One Night at callcenter - Not happening. Not what I thot it would be considering the hype. Not realistic. Nothing is ok...
3) Three Mistakes of my life - OK. Not his best. Had politics, business, romance and humor. All in all readable.
4) 2 States - The best of the lot. Very funny. I was laughing out loud in the nights (of course my wife thot I had lost it). Excellent narration. Nice story... Deals with a important situation in a nice and funny way... Kudos - Worth a read... in fact I will read it again...

best way to waste your taste and time

One of the best ways to squander your precious time is to read Chetan Bhagat. He is a master of nonsense. But I must say he knows how to sell garbage, probably he learnt it at IIM.

Ms. Singh, Please dont let your frustration so apparent becuase you could not make it. Bad or good writing can be due to anything.. And IIMs or other B-Schools, they dont teach you to sell garbage.. No one can teach and no one buys garbage. It is just morons and walking symbols of sour grapes who do this.

Chetan, take a reality check
by kaushik saha on Nov 04, 2009 05:02 PM  | Hide replies

You know why your books sell? Because of the sleazy nature of the writings. You are nowhere near to Sandipan Deb when he writes about IITians, or no where near to Ravi Subramaniam when he writes about IIM grads. You are a sleazeball, nothing else. And have the galls to think you are a youth icon. Gah

I agree that his books arent meant for literary connisseurs but at the end of the day you cannot ignore the sales figures. In my opinion he is an above average author who achieved success because of two reason :
1. He knows very well who exactly are his target reader group and what do they like.
2. His books are priced low and hence sells more copies because the difference in price between the original and the pirated copy becomes negligible. Dan Brown's "The lost Symbol" and Chetan Bhagat's "2 states" release almost at the same time. While most of the people bought pirated copy of "The Lost Symbol", they bought original copies of "2 states" boosting his sales figures

College literature
by Krishnan Bhaskaran on Nov 04, 2009 05:01 PM

CB is laughing all the way to the bank because he has written books for college students who are starved, by and large, for not more than one thing. I must agree that one must identify one's target group before writing a book these days - which he has done.

Writing for cpllegians, IIT obsessed writer
by chetan bhagwat on Nov 04, 2009 02:59 PM

Five point someone - Good Something New
Three Mistakes - story with little Depth
One night @ call centre - Bakwas
Writer obsessed with IIT, Maths, All his Hero & heroines loose virginity before Marriage.
His Stories seems like script of the film rather than novel especially One Night @ Call Centre. But Enjoy Reading his books for the flow of the story , and buying due to good priced.
as they are good priced.
