I will raise a diff. point here. Let's understand that racism is everywhere, do we not take advantage of non asian tourists that land in India - I know of several incidents in Delhi where poor tourists have been abused by thugs. In Australia, these perpetrators are not racist but will attack anyone for money to get liquor and cigarettes. Why we see more incidents against Indians, Pakistanis cos of reasons that are mentioned above so won't go into it. I see lots of recommendations to mend our behavior, frankly what everyone is precripting let's look inside - it defines what we are so it will not go easily, we should work towards improving it but not make a big fuss about it.
Having said that students should care a lot about safety, and always be watchful of any actions that is putting them in danger. Australia is not a great country for fine education (Only 1 college is in top 15 global MBA schools) but let's agree people get education so that they can earn part time migrate in future. There are enough avenues in India, I will urge that students come to Australia for right reasons only - salaries are going down and so is rate of Aussie dollar ~ why come here when benefits do not outweigh the risk?
A mob has attacked a group of people,this can happen in any part of world.This is purely Australian govts law & order problem.India cannot interfere in another country's law & order problem.
Many foreigners are attacked in India,is those countries PM calling our PM & raising that issue? This knee jerk reaction of congress govt is childish & making ourselfs a laughing stock among international comunity.
Afterall India supported the Srilankan Govt in the UN human rights council voting for the genocide of innocent civilians by srilanka army.
If India will overlook humanrights violation in Srilanka.Similarly western countries like Australia will overlook humanrights violations commited aginst Indians in their country!

These Aussies are poor losers. They dont have the guts for a straight forward fight. By attacking vulnerable targets, they are trying to prove a point. But the matter of fact is we Indians are not a united people in the true sense. Only when any outrageous acts like Mumbai attacks or Kargil happens we start singing patriotics songs and exchange sympathy with each other. But normally we are in separate groups either on the basis of religion or language. This is true with respect to Indian people living abroad. We can notice this even in our work environment, people from south, north and west do not mingle with each other as one, but are driven by urge to dominate the other group. Nobody can deny this fact. Why is that we always unite only when there is a problem. If we Indians are always together, will anyone dare to attack us. This groupism attitude has to change and change faster. Inspite of Pak being the epicenter of terrorism, has any Pakistani been attacked in these cowardly countries.
