read the first story above, rupa. this happens often. ragging is never done to an extent that it culminates into suicide or death. such cases are rare. the false alarm is more than actual fear. true, it is the same way dowry laws are misused. i dont favor physical raggings but no harm in taking an introduction and performing actions like singing and dancing. bringing IPC laws for ragging is not justified seeing that is will be easily misused. there are already many sections in IPC for the same crime...

all stupids argument. Ragging is never toomuch for someone to commit suicide.. The people who rag .. are simply "bastar**". My blood boils when I think of my days in REC
Put them in jail. Those slack college authorities who scared of senior goons should be disqualified, demoted and fund should be slashed. College authorities, pricipals, wardens should also be included in the party and case should be filed u/s 'attempt to murder'
Whatever the incidents of suicide on account of ragging etc., appear both the students, college authorities and parents forget. Parents won't chide their wards not to rag. College authroties are afraid of the students whose parents either must be rich or connected to political big wig. Even report to police won't fetch anything. I suggest that Govt. should make it compulsory to take a policy for compensating any victim of ragging on account of their ward participating in the ragging. The college authorities also should be made responsible to pay compensation to any victim of the ragging. The people who are involved in ragging should be given TC and sent out of the college/university. The police officials in whose jurisdiction the college/university falls should be made responsible to pay compensation to the victms of ragging apart from noting this in the concerned's service register and taken in to consideration for promotions/writing CRS. etc.,

do u think freshers are not from influential class? the children of influential class directly go to 3rd year? think of the other side. ragging may not at all have been an issue but if a disagreement arose between senior and junior, the junior will always shout that he is ragged. and if he is from the influential class, the senior is finished from the roots...
in the past ragging was personal meeting of freshers with seniors,but today it has become a matter of shame=like instructing freshers to do sexy acts with boys or girls and clips for black mailing them or selling the clips to porn dealers for lacs of rupees.the persons should be debarred for seeking admission in any college as they don't want to study but want to do physical exhibition of of physical assets of opposite sex or force them to do in private place or in public place. the college staff should made equally responsible for allowing such actions.the persons found guilty of ragging should be punished in full view of public.

Ragging is inhuman, barbarous and nasty. What, may I ask, is the purpose of it ? To say the least it is uncivilized.
ragging is a crimal offence more than rape or murder.hence whosoever is proved to be in ragging should be debar for seeking admission in any college and should put behind bars for at least for 5 years with fine of one lac or more. the college where it happens should be de-recognised. the college staff should made a party for abetment of crime and should be fined and or imprisoned.
seniors dnt realise their limits in ragging. things like telling stories, dancing and singing could help some to come out of their shells and speak up. things like this help ppl. but making ppl naked hitting them mental tortures etc are simply sadistic and should have no place in any institute professional or otherwise. i had simple tasks to do in my UG, i bonded with my seniors. after that one incident of singing, the guys became good friends. they even helped me finish my journals in later years even writing part of it when i wasnt feeling well and had a submission coming up. whether it was helping with guiding me and making me aware of the possible pitfalls and mistakes they made, i got the best of opportunities thanks to them. i learnt a lot. i was lucky but most ppl are not. few of the things in the article above are horrifying and shouldnt happen in a civilised human society. i support decent interaction between seniors and juniors but not ragging which is the crudest form of it. my juniors are still in touch with me and look towards me for guidance & advice and respect me, i dint have to rag them for that. to get to know ppl u dnt hav to insult them or make them feel bad abt themselves and degrade them. i certainly dnt think ppl would like to behave in such an uncouth manner like ragging evry new person they meetin their professional lives.
In this article.. Many things to be censored. I dont know how rediff does this. I feel that ragging should not be banned completely. it should be there but with a limit. If there is no ragging, there is no college life. In the latter days, you will feel when others tell about their ragging experiences. So ragging should be there with a limit. The government should propose that limit.
