not to scrap the exam, change the style of delivery, which expert educationist can look around example IGCSE or IB , which test the students practical knowledge rather than mugging up the contents

Its a great move

Education system and the competition has changed over time. I cannot compare my grandfather's second class or my father's first class to my distinction. They had a stronger knowledge base than what i have. Today' examination system stresses a lot on the end result (marks) and not on the learning process. The best mugger and reproducer wins. Stress is not on kid's understanding the subject, stress is on the kid achieving the marks. So this move atleast will bring the education system on track and schools will not go for ranks and concentrate on the teaching. Project based assessments are more reflective of a child's caliber compared to answering a question in 500 words.

it is a Clever attempt by sibal to garner votes in 2014 elections
by panini on Jul 01, 2009 11:08 AM

it is a shrewd move by sibal to garner votes of the young voters who think exams are a burden on them. he is a cunning person who has nothing to do with the interests of the nation. all he is concerned with is creating the vote-bank for 2014 polls.

Introducing "GRADE SYSTEM" in 10th exams is a good thing while retaining the % system in 12th.

In fact, these exams make Indians more competitive than their counterparts in USA & west. Removing the exams will divert the students attention towards other non-productive things & will ultimately destroy the competitive edge the Indians have over other students worldwide.

Xthe exams should be left aas they are
by Raj rai on Jul 01, 2009 10:34 AM

The education system needs overhauling ata the level that students scoring 99% marks has become a joke.
It never happens anywhere in the world except India.
This should be looked into seriously.
Govt should be strict with Tutions and the tutoring schools who just create magic vands for students to get through.
Its a industry which is expanding like plague and all the students are getting sucked into it.

10 th examination
by krish balaji on Jul 01, 2009 12:17 AM

according to me the exam system should not be banned totallym instead the exam must be conducted like the exams which are conducted prior to the board exams. there must not be the fear of the term BOARD . that itself is half panicking. and to add fuel to the fire going and writing the board exams in another school is also fearsome. the system should be such that it should not make the students scary. to put ina nutshell:
1. STUDENTS SHOULD WRITE THE EXAMS IN THEIR OWN SCHOOL WITHOUT THE FEAR

2. INVIGILATORS CAN BE ANY UNKNOWN TEACHER OR PROFESSOR OF ANY INSTITUTE WHICH NEED NOT BE DISCLOSED EARLIER.

3. THE STUDENTS SHOULD BE MADE AT EASE BEFORE WRITING THE EXAMS.

4 FOR CORRECTION LET THE PAPERS GO ANY WHERE AND JUDGE THE STUDENTS ABILITY , THAT WILL NOT MATTER THE STUDENTS MUCH.

5. THE PERCENTAGE SO GOT WILL DEFINETELY WILL BE MUCH BETTER WHEN COMPARED TO THE CURRENT SYSTEM.

6. THE MARKS SO GOT WILL DECIDE THE STUDENTS FUTURE.

7. STUDENTS SHOULD BE WELL COUNCELLED BEFORE THE EXAMS ABOUT THEIR CAREER. MANY STUDENTS ARE JUST UNAWARE AS TO WHAT GROUP TO OPT FOR AFTER THE TENTH. THEY JUST TELL THAT MY MARKS WILL BE THE DECIDING FACTOR. THAT SHOULD NOT BE THE CASE.

8. THE PRESENT SYSTEM IS JUST LIKE PUTTING THE KIDS IN HOSTEL AND SEEING HIM CRY FOR WANT OF LOVE FROM PARENTS. SO EXAMS SHUD BE CONDUCTED IN HIS OR HER OWN SCHOOL ITSELF.

10th Examination
by AMARJIT SINGH on Jun 30, 2009 06:45 PM

Our is the country that works better under stress. If we go away with the exams altogether then the students who study only under the exam stress during exam days can not do better other way and may suffer a lot in the later stage of life.
Thanks
Amarjit

The idea may be good but it will not work in India
by Jayaprakash Balan on Jun 30, 2009 06:24 PM

The idea of not having 10th Board exams would be good but it will not work in India due to India's traditional education system and moreover every Indian family's dependency and desperation for their kids to start earning early. Moreover, the social structure and extra curricular activities of school children are not strong enough that they would try to excel in different fields. Scrapping 10th exams would hence hardly make any difference. And rightly there would be more failure when suddenly they have to face 12th exams without any preparatory exams like 10th. However, since the thought has come, slowly the education department should start scrapping exams for smaller classes and concentrate more on practical tests which recognises children's talent and masters them. It is stupidity to see that people are concentrating more to reduce the burden of higher standard children rather than reducing the the burden of small classes. Change is always better but it should happen gradually and that too keeping the surrounding and present situation in view. India is India, we cannot follow America blindly.
