Should the Class X board exams be scrapped?
by sunder on Jul 02, 2009 03:59 PM

Many of the schools have classes upto 10th std.only.So there is a pressure on the student to score high marks to get admission in good college. And to get high marks the teachers/parents make the student to learn by-heart even the maths without understanding.
Further the student will be there in the Junior college for only 2 years and again he has to prepare for CET and what not to get into professioaal colleges. That means a student has to undergo the punishment(to score high marks)from 9th std. to 2nd PU.There is less room to absorb the knowledge but more concentration to score high marks. If every school has classes upto 12th std.eliminating the 10th class exam it will be sort of relief to the students and their parents as well.Like CET there should be a common Admission test for getting into the other degree colleges.Based on the ranking in the test one can get admission into the college of his choice without applying to various colleges spending lot of money on application forms. And for students opting out for Diploma /ITI courses can similarly opt for a common Enterance Test for such courses.

* Asking WHY is a taboo in Indian Education.

School teachers must solicit and record all WHY questions from our children and give them to us at the end of the day.

We can not altogether do away with some kind of testing. In my opinion, instead of class X ,a child be asked to sit in a Board examination at end of Class VIII and then in class XII, to optfor higher studies.
All jobs should have a minimum qualification of Class VIII.
But Mr. Kapil Sibal's other reported suggestion of a single Board for whole of India is impractical.

Class X board should be scrapped

Hello.I'm Gaurav Dhawan from gwalior.I'm of the view that class X board should be scrapped completely. It should not be made optional. By scrapping class X board, it will certainly reduce the pressure on students and make the school going student more comfortable. The board examination should be replaced by a grade system of internal examination of school.

I also support scrapping it completely. It not only unnecessarily orients children away from the worldly goodies so early in life,it makes them face struggle and dejection very early in life for which they r not prepared mentally and also carry it all through their life even if they fall slightly behind amongst the topper peers and affects their penultimate performance that should be preserved and weighted most and thats 12th and their professional and vocational entrances ... Sacrificing social circle without aim too early and then remaining aloof for 3-4 years when actually they shud socialize and understand correctly what they desire to be and generate interest in it ... we make them slog for studies and thats .. their 9th and then 10th Board exams which is very detrimental in holistic shaping up of a personality. Also this is also when children develop and experience a lot of phsycological changes which due to immense stress and pressure ignore paying attention and ways to combat and handle them and hence break or succumb to a vicious cycle of phsycologists as they loose the grip of handling phsycological problems themselves and jelling with parents. At the same time this prolonged stress on children also effects parenting in today's world when both the parents are working and ambitious. It leaves a sense of despair in parents when they see themselves not been able to handle their child's phsycological changes and succumbing to stress and leave them in a life long guilt mode

India is in too much danger with someone over and through Congress is forcing all rules on us.

I cant believe that even 40% people will say YES for this knowing fully and well that it will dupe the next generation. Their will be no objective of education!

Scrap the dumb syllabus instead if really Congress wants to make a change!
Change everything. Bring O level education to cities and villages. Let students Innovate and their views be judged on theories and self study.

This is going to be a BIG BLOW to whole INDIA.

Ive not voted a single time, but rediff says you cannot vote...

THIS IS HOW CONGRESS FORCES their RULES on DEMOCRACY.

INDIANS WILL LOSE their skillsets soon with Congress acting on behalf of US to make our next generation dumb

Instead why is Kapil Sibal not insisting on "O" level education, for all?

I dont think this person is intelligent at all!
all are just REMOTE CONTROLLED!

and INDIA is not a democracy.

You are correct.. India is NOT a true democracy.

What we have is idiots governing idiots.
Government "Of the idiots, For the idiots, By the idiots".

Democracy is NOT a solution for a vote-bank type of country like India where much to most of the voters are like monkeys trained/tempted into pressing a button to release their peanuts. Only a tiny percentage of voters are truly fit for deciding the type of leaders required for propelling the country forward.

And worse, we do not have those type of people standing up for the elections. So we're voting a bunch of semi-educated goons and criminals into the driving seats. Would you do that if you were running your own business?

What India needs is a Requirement-arianism / Management-arianism type of government. Severe interviews, exams and testing to be imposed upon a civic leader before we can "appoint" him into a "seat".

P.S. All reference to the word "Idiots" in this posting are directed towards those people with little to absolutely zero knowledge in civic management and what it takes to develop and advance a village into a new-age city.
In no way, do I intend to call the general populace "idiots". No insult intended.

Having a single Board for the entire country in place of numerous Boards will lead to a uniform education pattern. This in turn will lead to uniform evaluation system as well. This is something which needs to be fully supported. However while doing so local language of each state should be given prominence. As regards scrapping of Standard X Board examination, this will certainly reduce the pressure on the kids and make school going more enjoyable, but it should not be made optional. It should be completely scrapped and replaced by a Grade System of Internal Examination of the school but with external examiners using roll numbers and not names to remove bias of the school. The Grade System should be based on continous assessment in each term and not a one end-year examination.

SCRAP EDUCATION ALL TOGETHER? IN OUR COUNTRY, EDUCATION DOES NOT HELP ANYONE, ANYWAY. IT IS RULED BY POLITICIANS & OFFICIALS, WHO R ABSOLUTELY CORRUPT. RELIGION & QUOTA SEEMS TO BE THE LARGEST VOTE PULLER, INSTEAD OF DEVELOPMENT. INSTEAD KIDS SHOULD BE TAUGHT TO SEEK EXCELLENCE IN CORRUPTION ( OUR SOCIETY TEACHES IT FOR FREE ANYWAY), EDUCATION MAKES LIFE ALTOGETHER DIFFICULT, BCOZ IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT FOR AN EDUCATED PERSON TO COMPROMISE EASILY TO BE A PART OF THE ENTIRE CLAUSTROPHOBIA OF AN ENTIRELY CORRUPT SYSTEM. FINALLY HE HAS TO COMPROMISE, SO WHY MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR HIM BY PROVIDING EDUCATION. ITALY ZINDABAD!!!

Very good decision indeed !!!
by ss sk on Jul 01, 2009 01:28 PM

I hail the decision of Shri. Kapilji Sibbal as the best decision taken over by the politician ever in the history of our Indian Parliament. Not only this decision stood as historical but i appreciate the guts of this torch bearer of the 21st Century.
In the name of SSC exams many students have ruined their life irrespective of their extra ordinary skills. Till now, the marks scored in Maths, Science, Social Studies and languages are deciding factor for the future of a Student irrespective of his own choice and his other abilities. A good drawing skills or good in any of the sport or any other skill is not considered at all but only repeating the studied material is treated as a great qualification. What a sick mentality ?

Kudos Mr. Sibbal sahab. Dont wait for more discussion on this subject as Mr. Amartya sen correctly named us as "Argumentative Indians". We know only arguments and this for and against arguments will never end. Pl. do away with this SSC exams immediately sir.

X Exam
by subodh gupta on Jul 01, 2009 01:09 PM

There is already policy that no student will fail in school untill Class VIII.
IS this being implemented?
Many private school do not permit weak students in X half yearly Exam to Appear in board Exam.
How Minister will counteract these practices?
