Somehow, I am not for this thing at all. We all know that India is like so many nations in one nation. This diversity is what makes us unique and flexible. Each province and its language have individual, specific relationship that can never be translated without losing the unique blend.
It is therefore of paramount importance that this provincialism is retained and encouraged. A simple example is the language newspaper. Each language has its own, giving importance to the news from the province, or wherever that language group obtains in a sizable number. How can Navabharat Times cover Maharashtra and Maharashtrians as well as say, a Lokasatta?
I am not sure that a syllabus forced down from Centre, which largely means the Northern states, will do justice to leaders, personalities, specialities and unique features of whole of India. For example, to me it is inconceivable that some guys sitting in Delhi and planning an all-India syllabus will do justice to a Thiruvalluvar or Right Honourable Srinivasa Sastri. (I am sure they won't know these names!)
And, it is essential that a child be first made proud of his/her province and then of his/her nation. If we allow this Central Syllabus thing, it will attack the very roots of our harmony and unity in diversity.

Dude, what's your problem, really? Have you even seen the Maharashtra Board Syllabus? It sucks big time in front of UP Board or Delhi Board syllabus! And that is precisely the reason why students from Mahrashtra, still don't make it to top institutes like AIIMS or the IITs.
Also, didn't you read the article carefully??? It CLEARLY states that domicile language paper should be left to the state.SO, in future please read the article at least, before commenting!
And do remember that we are Indians first and then, residents of a particular state. Do not harbor or propagate such anti-nationalist statements.

so very true, we are all Indians first, it is our strength in diversity that has kept us and our culture so strong till today, our education system has been the strongest and the proof is evident in the world today, where Indians are respected for their intellect...

Dude, don't let the majority language people dictate every subject to you. Anand is correct. If we had to centralize subjects like history, then each state will loose its history and only learn about Ashoka. It is not about being Indian but being part of states that make up this country called India. Why would someone from Karnataka care about Ashoka compared to Vijayanagar empire or someone from Kerala care about north indian history when we should rather learn about how a Tamil kingdom called Chera finally became Malayalee. This is important to us. Centralizing history will force us to look at our own history as inferior.

another strong case of people with complex...rise above regionalism...when you go out of India everybody looks at you as Indians...and if discussion on history takes place then they expect you to talk of Indian history and not regional history, that will project your limited knowledge. In this era of globalisation we need to create mind which can think and talk nationally, and internationally rather than regionally....
The rural students, who presently do not have any facilities, will be at a total disadvantage if there is a uniform Board for Class X.
If the Minister for HRD is so keen, he has to first rationalise the syllabus. For ex, What is the point in a Class IX in ICSE student studying Shakespeare, if that student is not going to pursue English Literature (it is a different matter id the student is going to persue Eng Literature). The time saved could be used for learning optional subjects, which would be more beneficial for the student.

The solution to the growing problems of a diverse Indian population with competitive and harsh educational system at school is to LEGALIZE Home Schooling Education System in India, just like in the US.
ALL FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES ARE WAITING TO ENTER THIS VAST INDIAN MARKET, SOME HAVE ALREADY ENTERED WITH THIER VARIOUS CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL COURSES AND OUR GREAT POLITICIANS ,BUREACRATS AND TEACHERS HELP THEM ALONG AS THEY ALL STAND TO BENEFIT, HOWEVER THE POOR PARENTS WILL HAVE TO SELL THIER FLAT AND CAR TO PAY FOR THIER CHILDS EDUCATION. BOARD OR NO BOARD , SYLLABUS OR NO SYLLABUS ALL WE NEED IS CATHOLIC SCHOOLS OWNED AND MANAGED BY THE CHURCH AND NOT PRIVATE PARTIES WHICH CHARGED U BARE MINIMUM WITH ALL FACILITIES AND MIND U THE GOVERNMENT DID NOT GIVE THEM A RUPEE AS GRANT. AND I WISH WE CAN GRADUATE FROM THAT SAME CATHOLIC SCHOOL WHICH U CAN NEVER FORGET.THANKS TO ALL THE PRIESTS WHI TAUGHT US ALL MANNERS,ETIQUETTE ANDETHICS ETCC ETCC

Let there be examination who want to test themselves. Schools should hold their own exams, boards should be optional, and an extra weightage of 5% to be given to anyone who wants to give Boards. Yes a common core syllabus always is good as it levels the playing fields. Also over a period of time, when foreign universities will be allowed to operate in India, all this will have no value, as their criteria of admission will be purely based on their entrance tests.

yeah but the idea of congress is to destroy whatever we have. They have succeeded in desroying IITs/IIMs, already there was no value of anything else. Now 10th, then 12th, and finally, exams will be optional and everything will be by caste and muscle power.

Its crazy stupid idea to solve the problem of dis parity between the quality of education imparted to student v/s the superiority complex of examiners to show how strict they are to find out WHAT STUDENT IS NOT KNOWING RATHER THEN WHAT STUDENT IS KNOWING. The solution lies in how to remove this mis match and how to remove uncertainty(created by examiner"s style)in exam "SCOPE". By unifying the cylebus and making exam style--question paper and answer checking--transperent,the tention shall go away. removing the exam and replacing by other does not solve the problem. ITs Another crazy Idea by congerss media savy minister.
