Much ado About Nothing
by Aman Agarwal on Dec 22, 2009 10:47 PM  | Hide replies

i dont understand whats the reason for this post.
its very easy to block these websites. i am myself a network engineer and i have implemented this not only to save the bandwidth but also to channelise the energy in the right direction. if any office is concerned about its workforce spending a lot of time in browsing social networking website then it should just block the webistes and also the proxy website which allows the users to bypass the proxy servers.
Period!!

highly unlikely you can block or proxy websites as new ones crop up every day. Also what would you do with people who has internet on mobile phones ..use a phone jammer?

Whenever possible, we should carve out blocks of time, away from phones and e-mail, for different kinds of thinking.

No body can justify productive hours collectively.
Human brain can not produce 8 hrs of contineous productiveness.

In short , it good to have a small break in between and it upto the person how he wants to relax.

This is one of the worst article with a catch subject thats it to attract hits for advertisement.
India media really need to grow large

I dont understand why is it a wrong thing, if a person does his duties well and with accuracy. Well why do we grin about social networking websites, when you dont analyze them. If you go on any proper social networking website, we find groups of our related job responsibilities. Why cant we use them? I wouldnt comment about others, but dont the software guys need the internet and surfing access to enhance the knowledge and increase their network at the sametime? How about analyzing these sites like Linkedin, Facebook, ITtoolbox, yahoo IT Fan groups....everything has a pro and a con. I dont think its a crime till no "Obscene" stuff is accessed from office network. Its pretty much my personal belief.

Working hours
by Rob Shah on Dec 22, 2009 10:27 PM  | Hide replies

Please analyse yourself again and see how many productive hours you have generated. Working for 12-14 hours doesn't mean that you are generating 12 hours or 14 hours of productive output. This is a problem with the work culture in Indian It companies. Your boss will be more happy if you sit late in the office and work for 12 to 14 hours. We are more focussed on the quantity not the quality of the work. Lot of re-work comes if the quality of the work is not good. We should work only for 8 hours dedicatedly and do the quality work only. We need to change our thinking in order to work more efficiently and in an organised way. A normal brain can only work for 8-10 hours if you want good quality work.

Next Article ...Employees with windows next to their work station are easily distracted... reducing productivity.

Or may be even bathroom breaks. so make sure bathrooms are located 1 KM from workplace to ensure employees take fewer bathroom breaks..

Every employee has their KPIs and targets, how or when they achieve it is up to them, if social networks were to be banned at workplace... what nest??? personal phone calls.. mobiles??

In fact, 84 per cent of those surveyed in metros showed signs of internet addiction -- they don't take breaks at appropriate times, spend more than a 'normal' amount of time online, and get irritable if they are interrupted while surfing.

8 hours?
by SK on Dec 22, 2009 10:04 PM  | Hide replies

Productivity decreases from 8 hrs to 7 hrs. This is a joke. In India, IT people work like s_la_ve_s for 12-14 hrs a day. May be more.
