Tathagat Tulsi -Much hyped WhizKid Phd at at 21.
by D goel on Aug 31, 2009 01:31 PM  | Hide replies

D. Goel Afternoon, 1.20pmMonday, aug. 31, 2009,Pkl.
Most certainly the Young Dr Tulsi has a Phd from elite Indian Institute of Science,in quite the cutting edge field of Quantum Computations and he has been invited by some non-Descript Waterloo University in Canada , for Post-Doctoral studies. This is fine. Dozens of bright youngmen & women at that age have done similar work in India and abroad, Vashshta Narain Singh in yester-decades did that sort of trail-Blazing work at MIT, but later got burnt up.Ended in a Psychiatric Ward.Even great Men like Kurt Godel and Nash were suspected to be around the stage of getting into being a mental wreck.
The only exception to such genius of course, is S. Ramanujan who was entirely self-taught and Hardy at Cambridge felt that it was better to let the man blaze the trail and others could follow his leads. He remains a paradigm of true to the manor -born Genius to this day even after almost a century of his passing away way back in 1922.D. He has 7 publications: 4 single-author papers in Physical Review, 1 first-author paper in QIC, 1 in a conference proceeding and 1 submitted for publication.

Physical Review is amont the top-5 journals in physics with an high impact factor.

We should be proud of his achievement

You are very much correct. Having done so much of work along with studying for the degrees is not a joke. This speaks a lot about the capabilities of Dr. Tulsi and the potential achievable by him, but we Indians have this habit of denigrating our own geniuses. I am afraid that if Dr. Tulsi remains in India, he will end up like Dr. Vashishtha Narayan Singh who was considered as another Ramanujam but he was frustrated by our great Indian setup (full of monkeys who will pull down any of their peers who dares to climb up). Again it is better to feel proud and bask in the glory of the fact that despite adverse educational and social environment, we have a genius among us who has attained so much by the age of 21 and who has been offered for a position to do post-doctoral research in field like quantum computing. Our good wishes are with Dr. Tulsi.

Thank you for ur comments.

Actually, since our journalists are back benchers literally uneducated and perhaps road side political caders they take interview as if he has own an election.

we dont what did he do, what kind of work he did and where did he published his paper?

We need to see his work first.

The details are already avilable. Physical Review is a top notch publication. If you are a mathematician, then do look into these things and also search, otherwise, if you do not belong to this field, recognise the fact that he has received a Ph.D. from India Institute of Sciences which is well respected research institution and also the fact that a prestigious University in Canada has offered position to him.

He isnt as bad as it appears from this interview. Read a better article here: mydigitalfcdotcom/knowledge/whiz-kid-tulsi-has-quantum-designs-world-801
He hasnt made any breakthu but looks likes he isnt that bad as well. He could publish in a reasonably ok journal. And considering his age, he has done well. But tha fact that his guide didnt take any authorship is bit intriguing, though!

We all got our doctorate at the age 26 or 27 on average
by anirban bandyopadhyay on Aug 31, 2009 01:30 PM  | Hide replies

I submitted my thesis at the age 28 got doctorate degree at the age 29. This is India.

This is not important the age of getting doctorate, it is important what did u do.

The way he talked seems too imature. I dealt with many doctorates but even IIT B Techs behave in a more mature way.

May be the journalist is very cheap and converted mature talk cheapest way possible.

Maybe so and I am sure as a doctorate you will praise Tataghat for his achievement. I still don't think an IISc PhD is easy to get. Regarding maturity, maybe he still has a long way to go.

i may not be the correct person to say this but since i am an indian and we are living in a democracy and the fact that every one is entitled to an opinion all i want to say is i am sorry for this fellow...i am sure his parents must have squeezed the life out of the poor chap when they discovered he had an above average IQ....they must have devoid him of all his childhood memories...he wouldnt have played in the rain...teased girls..got punished by teachers...watched porn with friends...steal mangos from a garden...which most kids with a normal childhood would have had...when other kids were enjoying he was busy studying....now he is 21 and successful....with the kind of childhood he has had he will continue to be oblivious about other things which make life what it is....he will dedicate his life to making pot loads of money without knowing how to enjoy it...one more l0$er like NRN who will be praised by the public for his down to earthliness etc etc

No true bihari emulates Lalu. You hear about Tulsi because he is an exceptional case, otherwise no state in India is more inclined in education than Bihar. parents there sell their land and hard earned money to groom child for best comeptitive exams and the results of all these exams express that. There is a constant hinger to achieve win and perfrom in their society there despite of so much political suffering and apathy from rest of India.

its your problem that you understand everyone talking in a particular tone as Lalu!
That tone came thousands year before lalu!

I have no good answer for this good question of yours Kadam.

I totally agree with you that had the intellectuals of Bihar taken care of Bihar, Bihar would have stayed as a developed state as it was after independence till 1960s, just after Maharastra.

But you see it is easier to clear the competitive exams than fighting your own people and your own ill system. Why just Bihar...its the problem of every Indian, this si why India remains where it has been so long.
Yes but still Biharis lack because they lack the feeling of Bihari nationhood. The same person when outside Bihar perferms best and becomes worst when back into Bihar.
People there are lost in showing their superiority. The family of Tathagat Tulsi in fact got lost in showing their superiority and never thought through Bihari nationalism..this is why in this interview you can find that this man Tulsi only talks about his achievements greatness but has completely forgotten the society and surrounding which made him get this day. Its a typical Bihari problem..they belive in solo self obsessed narcissist style instead of team and national feeling...and this is why Bihar is a lost case today.
