about the rapist himself/herself and the potential rapist? Isn't there something that needs to be done to wean away people from perverse influences without making it unnecessarily vulgar. There is a moral responsibility that others also should assume, for instance, the TV channels, the movie houses, the various religious leaders misusing their priveleges. For the perpetrator and the victim, it is just one incident, but the repercussions are just as bad for both of them in different senses. While the victim might get a lot of support (and deserves to get it), the perpetrator sometimes gets no attention at all and is pushed into a life of repetitive crime. While we are clear that the rape offence does not warrant death, it becomes imperative to ensure that both perpetrator and victim are counselled. Even so, it is a reflection of our society and how low our sense of morality and self esteem has become. It is time to face up to the reality, accept our weaknesses and work as a nation to resolve this through a proper moral code of conduct in all fields (arts, science, corporates) and respect for the law, which can be incorporated in the educational curriculum in schools, colleges and other religious institutions.

Truth hurts...
See so many abuses you...
Dating is fine....sex is fine unless it go in favour of you/your partner...
Boy friend and girl friend concept is common now-a-days in India...
We follow western style but not their terms...
In western civilisation rape/sex is like brushing teeth or chewing bubblegum...
Why you do not see so many rape cases in West...are not that reported or what???

You Indians are destroying your culture and abusing yourself...
When truth come to your front you abuse others..

The author has only mentioned trauma and other after effects of the henious crime, and nothing as to how to help the victim to overcome these. Rediff may advise the writers suitably before publishing such articles.
