As mentioned in the article "CAT" being the toughest...life's battles are more tougher & challenging.Regarding exams there are other tough exams like GMAT,CISA,CISSP,etc.Lot of people have made it without MBA.MBA has been hyped by the media in India just like 'cricket'.There are other fields of education which requires both popularity and hype by the media.Do not get disheartened B-school aspirants if you fail.I am a telecom specialist settled abroad & have made it without an MBA!
I am an Electrical & Electronics Engineer grduated in 1978. After graduation I was of this impression that the best way to get into Management Information Systems field is to study MBA.Not necessary, even without an MBA, you can still get what you need in life. From 1983 till this day I am in IT Service Management field. The knowledge and experience gained is more than what an MBA could have offered. So, as the author Gayathri Bhanusekar says, CAT is not the end of the day, it may be so for he children who appeared for the exam, but not for their mother. My neice's mother was more pushy and agressive in telling her to take that exam as she is very greedy in her daughter getting a high salaries. She is an Engineering graduate and working in ICICI Bank. But, her mother is not satisfid with the salary she is getting at present so she wants her to earn more money. My advise to her was to develop her talent in ICICI bankd adn later the money will come to her automatically. What the parents should tell their children is to develop their talent in whatever field they are in and they should be encouraged and helped in developing it.
