CAT dosent defines your abilities

Well I fully agree with Gayathri over the issue that IIMs are not the end of life.Getting in to IIMs may just give a better platform but but you can always reach better heights without MBA if you are worth it.
I myself took up CAT last year, couldnt make it to IIMs,presently studying at IIFM.
Interacting with seniors and faculty here, one thing that i have experienced is that once you get out in the real world its just the first job or venture that is helped by your degree rest all thereafter is personal.A degree from IIMs or Harvard may place you on the fast track but than you will find several fast runners alongside there who are not equipped with any degree but have determination to excel. And than this is where you begin to wonder if you could have done it without wasting two precious years in MBA.
I can easily quote several examples of my school time classmates who did nothing except simple graduation(with great difficulty)and are in great jobs.
So friends life may be waiting with better gifts ahead and wants you to choose a path that is better than getting into IIMs.
And yes one last word,CAT isnt the toughest exam to crack, you just have to have a good day for it.

Fared badly in CAT 2006?

Definitely other than death nothing is end of life. But then always siting exceptional examples of big guys like Dhirubhai, Bill Gates, Michael Dell etc we tend to generalize entrepreneurship. We must understand it is not for everyone. These talks about "making big without MBA" comes after someone has not been able to successfully crack these exams. I mean there are uncountable CEOs who are MBAs they are also not "owner" of the business but they are as important probably more than the owner himself. Therefore being an MBA increases the chance of your living a good life. That is it, it should not and is not more than that. Life moves on for sure but yes what it says is that "though money is not everything in life, it is probably the second best alternative". Therefore being an MBA is more about making money, self esteem, a good career and other peripherals. But at the same time that is not the end of the world. And also people should not site mythical examples of selected few like Ambanis and Gates, for each Ambani there would be millions of failures.

I agree with Gayatri that CAT is not the end of life. I have an example which proves people better ranked Institution also can be behind than others.

I worked with one of India's leading organisation, the No.4 in their field worldwide. The head of our department was a MBA from JBIMS and mere an MBA. On the other hand my manager was a first attempt cleared CA and a MBA from S. P. Jain. Now if you compare their rankings SP Jain is ahead of JBIMS, and over it my manager had a CA degree. These proves that what it finally matters is your talent rather than from where you have done your MBA. Another example are the entreprenuers who have not studied beyond graduation, some not even that, only a handfull of them great educational background

Absoloutely one cannot stop due to IIM or any other. Every test / exam must be and is same. We have to get the best out of any of the first.

IIM toughest exam bull shitttt
by santosh on Nov 25, 2006 11:00 AM  | Hide replies

IIM might be a tough exam but never the toughest exam,it does not require rigorous hard work as do some of the others. It requires logic and good planning.

There is a chance of getting through even for a person who does not prepare at all

I am sure,JEE is the toughest exam...it requires a minimum of 6 months rigorous preparation.

if jee is the toughest why do so many IITs fail to make it to iims. only the best make it, iits/IAS are represented in IIMs because some of them manage to qualify to the IIMs.
