tne most wrongly used words in this country is minority and secular. while an indian believes any God is a majority, while a person who believes in koran and bible are minority. the supreme court has also failed in this regard in concluding what is minority

First you have to understand constituition and you will your answer. If you want to make them equal than send one party at center by 2/3rd majority who can ammend this and you will see everone becomes equal. Can any party do it ??

on congess being elected with full rights they will decide that muslims shuold be given better benefits and should be treated above others therefore excepting any thing from a majority congress would be absurd

u mean, there is no caste in Christianity ? do u remember what happened in Villupuram last year ?? Two groups of Christians were fighting for entry into Church ? Castes are there in all religions and places in the world, albeit under different names.

Ruling class' decision to introduce caste based reservation in Private Sector will not let that happen. After all vote bank politics is not the monopoly of regional parties.

Is it a satire ?
by Samir Chaturvedi on May 20, 2009 01:48 PM

How literate people make such childish comments ? It is not expected from a professor to writ such a big article without even putting in his brain.
Is there any area where cast system not working ? all the tickets are issued only based on castes or religion ? Winning of congress is due to consolidation of votes of a religion ? All regional parties are successful only based on caste politics ? Still the article compel us to believe that caste (or religion) politics is dead. Even if you go to history, the old parties have been relying on certain castes and certain religion votes.
But, this was a good piece of humor.

Its all over india

DMK rose to power in Tamilnadu under the plank to end ‘Brahmanical oppression’ and anti-Hindi language issue. AIDMK chief Jaylalita is another player from opposite political fray in Tamilnadu. Many regional political parties emerged on the ground to represent the local people of the particular caste. Maharashtra has also seen movement against south Indians in past and now, against north Indians. Shivsena and Maharashtra Navnirman sena (MNS) are pioneers of this kind of malice campaigning against non-Marathi speaking population in Maharashtra. Northeast states have also seen language based political issues in many elections, when Bihariis were killed in the state. Bengal has seen the campaigning against Marwaris. Caste, Language and Religion plays major role to win elections in most of the constituencies in India. Many parties nominate and shuffle the stature of candidate on the basis of his/her caste.

end of caste politics???
by shantanu sukul on May 20, 2009 01:25 PM  | Hide replies

Unfortunately rural india can't get rid of caste so soon. For example the land revenue departments in most states even now mention caste along with each village. We can't change this for many years to come since we can't overnight change land holdings of agriculturists. Moreover, it is only in exceptional circumstances that voters will not vote for ine of their own. Muslims are more easily swayed one way or another because in most cases 'one of their own' is seldom fielded and they end up voting for their Hobson's choice. This is why caste of the candidate is a very important factor and will continue to remain so. Congress normally gets max seats only because they somehow can attract people from all castes, regions and religions into their fold, unlike all other parties. Theoritically the coomunists too should be able to attract people from all over India but somehow this has not happened all these years.

Parties must stop looking at the voters as Dalit, Brahmin, and Backward community. We need the political parties which don’t have leaning to any caste, language or religion. Parties may lean towards different ideologies for the betterment of the nation.

People should not vote for the politicians, who play these cheap planks. They should vote for development. This would be the best option for the progress of the nation in gloomy days of recession

Cast politics of India
by GopalaPanikkar Pazhoor on May 20, 2009 01:22 PM

I do not agree with Dipankar that cast politics has ended. All political parties tried to exploit cast feelings in the election of 2009 and they have succeeded also. Muslims only contested in Ponnani and a Khamma congress candidate contested in Khammam in AP.Punjab vote for a Sikh prime minister. These are only a few examples. Only after cast based reservations are removed in jobs, political positions we can eradicate cast ism from India.Best way is to reserve 50% of state government jobs for people from other states. The may control corruptions also toa great extend

Caste Politics is a dangerous trend, stop it!
by dranil on May 20, 2009 01:16 PM  | Hide replies

some of our politicians have earned masters degree in getting elected by dividing casts and religions. However, this will prove the most dangerous thing in coming days. Lallu prasad, Ramvilas Paswan from Bihar, Ramdas Athawale from Maharashtra and Chothala from Haryana are some of the politicians who have damaged the social fabric to such and extent that people of a particular caste will not help the others with open and healthy mind. Organizations like muslim league and MIM in andhra are dividing Muslims from Hindu to get electected and get richer with every election. This kind of politics of hate will not help India in any way and it is we better give it up. If our constitution allows people of all caste and religions to live in peace, why politicians are hell bent upon breaking India on the basis of caste and religions? Lallu Prasad who was invited by IIT's and other management schools to deliver lectures, always speaks ill on people beloning to a particular caste. Can we really believe Lallu is a true secular and an intelligent politician? The answer is No. He become a senior minister by default (that is by dividng the castes and communities) and he needs to be thrown out if he continue to divide people for his personal and family gains. We should encourage people of all caste and religions to live in peace and harmony and create an atmospehere where people feel safe and secure. Every religion must be treated on par only then can we grow and prosper.

This is one of the reasons; the viability of third front can be doubted. It has many representatives of different caste, region and religion. The interest of different political parties would clash during the policy implementation, if voters allow them to come to the power. This trend should go. Caste, religion or language based politics is not in the favour of the aam aadmi.
