gud job mms
by Indian Aamadmi on May 18, 2009 06:40 PM

I congratulate MMS and Sonia Gandhi for acheiving this landmark victory in general elections,as promised during elction rallies they must now have a strong team of ministers and advisors to run the government as well as implement the welfare schemes. Opposition has got very little role to play at this moment they are yet to come out of the shock of defeat and that would take a few months, as every party is preparing to hold post election meetings and brain storming sessions to find out the reason of defeat. I think they do not need to have all this drama, thefact is simple and that is none of them had any policy for the benefit of common man. Take for example the BJP they were asking for votes from common man saying their candidate is iron man, they wanted to hang afzal guru, and find out waysfor ram temple, others were busy only in saying who will be next PM and there were half a dozen names in the list, so the question is that what did they had for common mans education, health care and progress. none.
MMS is a learned person and hopefully will boost India's image and economy to new heights this time.

we hindus were ruled for 2000 years by invaders and british.we have remained slave for so many years that we have lost our self respect.no matter what we say european and american still consider us as slave.what congress has done to improve our image.congress has given half of the kashmir to pakistan and china.bank accounts of quotrocci has been defreezed and interpol arrest warrant has also been withdrawn by the indian government on the orders os "saint sonia".media is also biased against BJP.rajiv gadhi killed 4000 sikhs and immediately he was made prime minister.he killed hundreds of soldiers by sending them to srilanka as part of indian peace keeping force and we were humiliated the srilankan government.some people are asking about the qualification of BJP leaders, will some one tell me the qualification of sonia gandhi, rahul gandhi and priyanka gandhi.what congress did to change the system.20 years ago a committee on police reforms had suggested that police should be made independent and should be removed from political control but congress rejected that report.how many roads congress has built, how many schools congress has opened, how many villages congress has electrified in 55 years of it's rule.congress never tried to change the system.look at the condition of our judicial system, our public distribution system, public health system.before NDA 8 lane highways was considered as dream but NDA realised that dream.is talking about bangladeshi infiltrators communalism.

For each of these empires.. Understanding the vast variety of Indian society has been a key to success n survival.. Be it Ashoka who let all the religions to breath freely inspite of being a Buddhist himself, or be it Akbar who joined hands with hindus or be it british woh used devide-n-rule. understanding the variety is the key. BJP/RSS has never been able to do so in their 100years agenda of Hindutva.. even a common hindu doesnt buy it in his own daily life or on a voting machine. Gandhi understood it long back n so did Nehru n his descendants.. There isnt a reason to cry abt Ghandhi regime unless u have any better alternative. Interestingly Rahul Gandhi has already proved himself to be much better candidate than the BJP's failed leader LKA. I wish him a peaceful sanyas and happy that he is not ruling the nation.

Only Positive Outcome...
by imran patel on May 18, 2009 06:36 PM

I for one do not see a huge difference between the governing principles of the BJP and the the CONG (I).

The question is not "Who will govern Better ?"..but the real question is

"What is the role of government?"

No political party or politician will answer this question. They will want to govern everything. This is what gives them POWER.

The only positive outcome of this election is the rejection of the Communist party by the people of WB and Kerala.

This is a step in the right direction. Just a step though.

by Anthony Braganza on May 18, 2009 06:32 PM

Mr Baru, you are a perceptive person and this article shows it. However, my view is that the average voter does not indulge in semantics and just votes for whatever takes his fancy. This time the congress took his or her fancy and he or she voted accordingly.
Also let us understand that this election has had more complexity in that there were 'competing seculars' and the voter felt that the coongress was the best of the lot. The nuclear deal has exercised the imagination of only the chatterati and is not a subject that interests people in rural and semi urban areas. In my humble opinion, the coongrss needs to accept the verdict with humility and get back to the service consciousness that it started out with, or it will be thrown out in the next election, if there is one! Too much to expect in the present day and age!

A centrist rule?
by muralidharan k on May 18, 2009 06:27 PM  | Hide replies

I personally think, what we need is not a 'right' or 'left' rule, but a centrist one. We saw how absolute capitalist rule can wreck the economic system because it tends to be not transparent in its dealings as we saw with all the fallen U.S banks. Our own public sector banks not only survived the disaster that devoured the US and other western economy, but flourished too.

Our banks survived not because of govt but becoz of comman man who is keen on saving his earnigns. Unlike in US and western countries, Indians don't want to buy what they don't afford. People consider loans as liabilities and repay them to banks. All the people repay credit card charges without paying interst over it. So banks hold sufficient money with them.

The so called specialists like Pronnoy Roy, Arnav Goswami & many others who made all kinds of predictions & post poll scenarios 1, 2, 3 and so on should be taught some tough lessons by the viewers (how I don't know !!). They were wrong & did so much damage to our people. At least they all must accept that they were wrong & apologize for what they told viewers till May 16 AM. Its disgusting that these jokers could go on talking all rubbish & claim success in their forecasts etc. The Regulator, if any in the media must ensure that adequate panalties are imposed so that they do their home work well & not talk crap & waste viewers time.

The Mughals ruled India from around 1200 to 1600 AD, thats roughly 400 hundred years.

The Mughals are now found, primarily in Indian history text books and the occassional Bollywood movie, remember Mughal - E - Azam and more recently Jodha - Akbar.

The British arrived in India in 1607 / 08, ruled from around mid 1700 (after the battle of Plassey 1775) to 1947, less than 200 years.

The Brits today are more popular globally for the sad demise of Jane Goody, the hairstyle of David Beckham and the choice of underwear of Scary Spice.

India, owns 51% of the Global Business Process Outsourcing Market, Produces the world's highest number of software engineers and actually has a Banking System that has not collapsed.

ABOVE ALL, India neither hatest the Mughals nor the Brits, we love the Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Great Trunk Road, The Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Terminus, the Rail System of India, the Parliamentary Democracy and Yes, we do have empathy and love for Jade Goody.

Cheers. :)

A very naive, superficial and trivializing argument put forward by the "argumentative Indian". Do you suggest that these landmarks, the rail network, the parliamentary democracy etc are reason enough for us to believe that foreign rule was good for us? How can these ever compensate for the blatant exploitation of our resources and people (esp. by the British)? And how dare you suggest that Indians who established first modern civilization, when Europeans were probably still living in caves, could not have erected these landmarks or evolved into a democracy in the absence of the foreigners?
