India Decide; What Next?
by Arunkumar Puthenveetil on May 17, 2009 09:46 AM  | Hide replies

India has indeed taken a mature well-thought decision, giving priority to the right issues and choosing the right man with the right mandate and the right vision to pursue the solution to its most important problems. But this time India sure expects the governance to perform much beyond the existing mark given the current climate : global econ meltdown, threat of terrorism and insecure neighbour, changes in US policies, attitude and geo-political order. It is in this climate the new government must make strong reforms in the agrarian architecture of our country. Tapping the potential of IT for enhanced agricultural productivity and efficient supply flows to demand centres, massive launching of value added agri-products and processed foods to international markets at low prices for same quality... need to be pursued aggressively. Promoting microprocessor fabs and investing huge on key areas of fundamental research with the 'closed' aim of increased productivity need to be on top cards. On security front time has come to think and act on the matter of introducing 'smart' e-solutions in the form of bio-metric cards and e-money!

rigged evms in ap/del/raj did it for kaangress.
also anti-left wave in kerala/wb helped.
bjp is the only non-communal/non-casteist party with a focus on development. but since it talks about a pan-Hindu identity it invites the ire of lot of soul and skin harvesters from all over the world who will stop at nothing to get their way.

A balanced assessment
by Govind Lal on May 16, 2009 08:16 PM  | Hide replies

A balanced assessment. Yes we need a stable government. But not at the expense of India's sovereignty. The new government should move in a different path. How far it is possible is yet to be seen. Congress is committed to various foreign governments. We can accept them if they have an independent India friendly approach and not a MENDICANT approach.

by Red Devil on May 16, 2009 07:49 PM  | Hide replies

Here are the things to fear from Congress rule( in order of importance):

a) Extension of reservations to private sector.

b) More socialistic wasteful policies and not enough liberalization.

c) Resuscitation of peace process and business as usual with Pak within an year's time

d) Continued inaction on illegal immigration

by Farid Mubeen on May 16, 2009 07:00 PM  | Hide replies

BJP need to go on for strong Hindutwa.
This is the reason of Modi and Varun success.
Now BJP should take Ram mandir seriously even
not in power.

You have a Muslim name, and can clearly see the --vyang-- tone of your intent. But seriously, we Hindus do need a Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and it would be good for all religious communities in India to re-establish a magnificent Rama Temple at Ayodhya.

LKA is identifed closely with Ayodhya Temple and he was deeply sad when Babri Masjid was brought down, for that was not his purpose. His endevour was constructuve, to build Rama Temple only. His lifelong struggle for the nation deserves proper honour and in right spirit should receive redemption.

In perception of common masses Hindutva has got oversimplified to being a politics of identity. This can only bring some local success but not at national scale.

We need a politics of sophistication and sound values which Bharatiyata could provide for diverse security and development needs.
