Advent of the New Age Politicians
by Biju George on May 18, 2009 03:48 PM

Shashi Tharoor's victory shows the changing mentality of Indian Voters. They are no more wooed by false promises of politicians who don't have any ethics. People of Kerala embraced Shashi as someone with a will to change, a will to work and a will to develop in its truest sense. Hope Shashi would change the face of Indian politics rather than Indian Politics change Shashi himself.

by damodaran mohan on May 18, 2009 12:38 PM

our best wishes and congrats to ST. However the win is more due to the mood out there in Kerals rather than for any of his significant services to the country..........it is more a case of timely grabbibg opportunity ...

Significance of victory
by shiva on May 18, 2009 06:27 AM

ST's victory shows the voters of Kerala want to leave behind a sordid past. Kerala & WB were classic theaters of communism at work based on class fight-the rich & the deprived. The older generation found it difficult to shake off their loyalty-25% were die-hard communists, come what may! Another 25% the opposite! The balance were the swing voters.

The new media has brought into focus the real reward for supporting a party which cannot deliver where it matters most, jobs! The mentors of dyed in the wool reds were the Chinese. They changed track seamlessly into a capitalistic system but communism in name only. Even their cult leader Mao became an object of desire for Westerners in the emblems sold at the recent Olypimcs, even the dead Mao is made use of in making money, he would have turned in his embalmed state, if one were to observe closely!

When Communism was at its height in Kerala, the union leaders were terrorising the business people. At the drop of hat (lungi) they called for strikes! That meant a small minority of employed lived off the aam aadmi who left not better than SL tamils to far away lands & even bore the wrath of Bal Sahib, with zero job security! Some returned as srangers back home to own family for a life of neglect & misery.

Communism is great in theory but human mind is selfish even the die-hard amongst them have egos like rest of us! It can wreck peace as most countries ban them! Thanks comrades, you did have your days in the sun!

Congratulations on his victory. In keeping with his philosophy on Indian women wearing sarees, an a rticle he wrote earlier), I hope he wears the traditional veshti/mundu/sattai throughout his political career instead of western suits.

WE ARE PROUD
by hanif mohammed on May 17, 2009 03:36 PM  | Hide replies

As an Indian from Kerala, I am extreemly proud that ST is elected MP from our state capital TVM. India need more of STs to represent us at world forums, where the right people makes the difference to our advantage. I hope he is awarded the Foreign Minister portfolio, because I am sure he will achieve what INDIA want, as he will be able to apply the right mix of lobbying and hob-nobbing with world personalities, where it matters.

Shasi Tharoor born and brought up in abroad. He married a foreigner. He was the same person who campaigned against India in UNO in the wake up second nuclear test in 1998 as required by our scientists under Dr. Abdul Kalam for national security. This so-called intelligent and well wisher of India had no time to evaluate the importance of this significant step taken by the then Union Government. Has this test not helped India achieving a tower status in world politics? India has two enemies who had loaded India several wars since independence, unprovoked. Both the nations are nuclear armed. Both have clandestine nuclear weapon programs. One is a Security Council permanent member and have largest army nuclear warhead.
The same is Communist ruled and has naval bases around India whereas other one is mostly ruled by military dictators since its independence.Of late,Islamic fundamentalists are found encroached open that nation's administration. That nation's elite are not ready to reconcile with the fact that India is an independent democratic secular nation. Besides, other nations Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar in the region are mostly inimicals. And in Lanka there is ethinic crises. In view of the above, I do not understand how can we give an important portfolio like External Affairs to such a person? In the event of this the confidential information may leak to a foreigner who as his wife lives with him? Of course, Sonia is foreigner lived with our ex-PM, Rajiv. Let god save us!

perhaps bimal should think of Orissa more and try cleaning up the dirt in Orissa's politics, the effect of which is evident from the situation of the state through last 60 years. Guess all those politicians were by birth and blood oriyas and alas what they did...
