No meaning of holding Election in Tamil Nadu
by Pillai Balasubramaniam on May 08, 2009 10:47 AM  | Hide replies

These educated & uneducated poor tamilians have no choice other than DMK (Karunanidhi Party) & ADMK (Jayalalitha). These 2 parties hv understanding of winning election every 5 yrs alternatively & then, foolish the public by dramatising as opposition leaders in assembly. What had Jayalalitha done to TN people when DMK is ruling and vice versa. Both R operating their own mouthpiece - TV channels and every moment in news, each blames one another. MGR's regime was the last good government TN had & now, nobody could bring it back. All these Stars and Superstars are just playing with the sentiments of TN people. If Rajni wants to do good to the people, he had a very good chance about 10 years back when he brought down Jaya Govt. by representing DMK and DMK won all 39 seats. Rajni could have made alliance with all good charactered artistes in TN Cine field and fought against these 2 evils and given TN people truly an MGR regime as TN is expecting for. But now, it is not possible as Vijaykanth started new party, Sarathkumar is with Jaya's ADMK and others are missing in the clouds of many other small parties. BEST OF LUCK TO TAMILIANS IN TAMIL NADU. WAKE UP & BRING DOWN THE RESPONSIBLE POLITICIANS IN UR AREA FOR NON-DEVELOPMENT IN ANY KIND - LIKE ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES' PRICE HIKE, NON-AVAILABILITY OF RATION GOODS, ELECTRICITY, WATER, ROAD & RAIL TRANSPORT, HEALTH, ETC. ETC. BRING THE POLITICIANS ON THE ROAD AND STONE THEM TO DEATH. DO IT ONCE, REMAINING ALL WILL IMPROVE.

A common reality which we never understand!!!
by Sugata Ray on May 08, 2009 10:46 AM  | Hide replies

Probably all of us know this story, have seen, or read or heard about it. But, still we are forced to believe today that the only job of a Government, a State or even a society is to make all possible arrangements so that corporate houses can continue to do their business, grow and flourish. The media has wonderfully worked in liason with the corporate world to make us believe that solution of every problem lies only there. Once big capital can do bigger business, we will have all our problems solved automatically, by an invisible GOD named MARKET!!! However, I believe that every sensible person with his/her personal experience knows that it is never the case and it will never be the case. Still we only curse the politicians, the corruptions but exclude the model which this present society has taken up. Corrupt politicians are part of our lives from time immemorial, but since when we have started seeing such kind of wealth accumulation by few while the rest remains the same or even deteriorates. We must remember that this wealth doesn't come for free, it exploits the resources of our country, while the real people of the country doesn't benefit. We should start asking question about the model and stop acting as puppets in front of the dangerously aggressive media and corporate logics.

how can a govt. at center work when there are dozens of guys pulling other down. Nuclear deal ? So much hue and cry was raised. To whose benefit ? mind you they all come together when question of their salary is raised. We need to have a strong center with a good and intelligent opposition. Perhaps it is an Utopian idea ?

Democracy

Someone said- people get the government they deserve. If we do not exercise our constitutional right to vote judiciously, then how can we expect a responsive government. PS- I believe it is time postal ballots be allowed and voting be made compulsory.

it is wrong to say that we deserve this sort of government. I am strongly contend that we do and rightfully deserve better government only misfortune is we have yet to give our so called leaders their rightful places. It is we who cheer them up and pay obeisance almost as if they were our masters. That they feel like our masters is because we have allowed them to. It is high time we start respecting quality in our leaders rather than quarrel among ourselves.

when most of the leaders are corrupt and there is no choice but to vote for some corrupt party/politician. people can change their ways for good in small ways but some big changes has to happen as a top down approach to clense the system

First of all, the MP Dev Fund of Rs 2 crores to each MP should be stopped.
The corruption starts from there and money grows every election time and
it is not Democracy but it is DEMONOCRACY.

Disgruntled Voters!!!!!!!!!!!
by venkatesh v on May 08, 2009 10:35 AM  | Hide replies

It is a sham........... If the voter is disgruntled, it is he/she who is responsible.

It only translates that the voter is not exercising his power to the right use. Else, how can such politicians come to power. It is for the immediate petty gains (like cash / freebies) that the voter is lured and falls into the trap. So it is absolutely no reason to complain.

Use the power of your vote to elect right candidates for a good governance and also stand up to question them when they are falling back on the promises and no development done.

have heart. the power of mass holds good. remember how Maharashtra Govt bowed down to will of masses after terror attack? remember Jessica Lal case? things get right with rightful approach. agreed this voting activity is really a dance of democracy. we can still mend our ways and make which ever government comes to power to mend theirs. We strongly and forcefully need to unite and ignite.

They probably should be. But it is the recepients who vote. For the poor, corruption is not an issue. It is food they want. The TV sceme, rice @ Re.1/- and free gas stove with LPG connection were announced as Govt. schemes. While the TV scheme was a mockery, you can't blame selling PDS rice for Re.1/-. There are down trodden people who really deserve it. Only the scheme should have been implemented in a better way to avoid smuggling of the rice to other states.

by vijaya kumar on May 08, 2009 10:18 AM

this is just a small example of where is a clear separation between over developed, hitech and poor and helpless just a few meters away. either the companies should have the sense to do a bit of development( apart from highways leading to their company sites) along side their profits or the elected leaders leaders should do something meaningful to the common people who are lost in the Hitech world.

Mukundan,
Translate it in english what you wrote in Tamil in your previous discusion....
Moreover dont blame congress or BJP as the state where they are ruling completely without regional parties support are realy dooing well.Take eg of Delhi, Gujarat.MP,Chatisgrah,Rajsathan.You need to blame your Dravidian partis for this pitty condition of TN people.

IN Tamil Nadu only place which remains is Chennai what about other places in Tamil Nadu with the help of Dravidian parties in power for so many years.. Its like West Bengal only Kolkatta remains with the help of leftist and communist.
Great work by TN people that still vote for such regional parties....If you keep doing one day Chennai will be over crowded as it is now and become slum of its kind.
Another tragedy of Chennai is cost of living is very high but per capita income is at 9th position at national level even Surat,Indore, Ahmedbad like city is at 3rd position on basis of per capita income.

Please talk with some sense, don't make statements without tangable proof.Who told you Chennai has a high cost of living compared to par capita income??--where did you get this crap from???
Chennai is ametro city compare it with other etor cities not with B centres like surat and indore.
Conditions of ordinary people throughout the nation is more or less the same.
Not even one state in India has a decent infrastructure whether it is ruled by Congress,BJP or by a regional parties.
