Hindi speaking nation
by lutiya doobi on Mar 24, 2009 10:32 PM  | Hide replies

Best thing for India is to form a Hindi speaking nation in North India. Regional parties of South and other parts can form their own nation. Better to have one nation and one language formula.

In South India, people from Karnataka, Andra, and now many in Tamil Nadu have learnt Hindi. No state should give up its regional language. I am not from a Hindi speaking land. You talk to me; I can speak purer Hindi than you do. I wouldn't use Urdu words in my Hindi at all. Most of the North Indians speak Urdu-mixed Hindi.

I agree with you man. To appease non-Hindi people and their regional parties, Hindi is not the national language of India. So we should have a country only of Hindi speaking states.

what is a national party
by poovannan ganapathy on Mar 24, 2009 10:20 PM  | Hide replies

any party which obtains more than 6% vote in more than 3 states is a national party.bsp, ncp,sp ,cpi, cpim are all national parties. bjp lovers kindly remember that bjp had just 2 mps in 1984 and is still a zero in west bengal/tamilnadu/kerala/andhrapradesh and northeastern states except assam.both congress and bjp are regional parties and the talk of two party system can be tried when we make the central committee of parties supreme and it should consists of a minimum of 15 sc,8 st,27 obc,20 from christian muslim sikh etc and half women.we can than eliminate parties like muslim league and bjp which r for specific religions.

dear friend muslims form around 15% of the population and christians around 5%.how many candidates from muslim/christians r in bjp list.in gujarat, karnataka, himachal, uttarkhand ruled by bjp there is no muslim/christian mla.what does it prove.its makes ambedkar the greatest visionary as if not reservation there would not have been any dalits.it should be in the party too and than there will be party based on economy, foreign policy, different priorities like importance to agriculture/industry/health etc and not bjp/muslim league/akalidal/pmk/dalit parties

Tasks before the new government....
by SS Kumar on Mar 24, 2009 09:57 PM  | Hide replies

For far too long, the Government at the Centre has neglected the task of inter-linking rivers.
The irony of Orissa & Andhra suffering from drought while river Brahmaputra floods Bihar is a recurring annual feature. We need to immediately implement a time bound river inter-linking plan so that no region suffers for want of availability of drinking water. We can also explore if these rivers are deep enough to support movement of goods and human beings by boats. All the previous governments have simply talked about the desireability but done nothing about making a start of the above project.

Dear Mr. Kumar,
River brahmaputra does not flood bihar. Please do not post uninformed comments.
regarding the interlinking project, there are fundamental flaws in the idea itself. May be I would share a writeup on that if you want.

INDIA does NOT need any more regional parties....
by SS Kumar on Mar 24, 2009 09:46 PM

The more the number of regional parties, the more difficult it becomes to weave a common vision for national development as the region al parties always look for immediate political gains at the cost of national interest.
Ideally, a 3 national party political system is good for the country to keep the ruling party always under check and not allow it to deviate from the set course of pragmatism. It will be nice if the Third Front can solidify into a sturdy third front to mount a challenge to the other two, although it looks very fragile at present. It will be nice if the three major political combines can pronounce their own agenda for the nation, their longer term vision, say 25 years, for India's develop ment and how they propose to solve the exist- ing problems. Each of the 3 parties should get prime time on national TV to share their vision, plan of action for development, eradi- cation of poverty etc. just before the elect- ions. Such a move would indeed be healthy for India rather than each political leader trying to tear down the other leader in public or scoring brownie points on the immature utter- ances of Varun Gandhi.

India or Bharat was ruled by different regional rulers
by Rajendra Nayak on Mar 24, 2009 08:31 PM

Truth has to be always accepted. We were not at all a United nation of different Kings & Queens. Regional feelings will be always there because in the last 62 years nothing has been done to get rid of this regional stigma. In many of the movies, the regional feelings are brought in and made a mockery of. e.g. Madrasi with lungi, Goan with short skirts and drunkeness, North Indians are called Bhayyas. So where do we have unity even after 62 years of independence. This is not so in other countries wherein they talk of their nationality first. Like Obama, Putin, Chinese all declare that nothing will happen to their nation and swear by that. All of them say we are Americans, Russians, Chinese etc before they talk of their regional status.
Only the regional parties can come together but at the same time these regional parties should respect the nation first and should not get involved in separation etc.

The heading was good
by dheeraj on Mar 24, 2009 06:54 PM

The heading was good but the execution wa faulty , there are 25 main regional parties and to group them only under Mayawati was stupid , Mayawati BSP is one of many regional parties and the article had turned into a Mayawati advocate document . Regional parties are critical in order to meet regional parties but if there were 50 regional parties two in every major state with no national party could the governance be cohesive (1989,1977,1996)
