Some ideas

The biggest flaw in our democracy is the first past the post system. We must have proportional representation in maybe the upper House-Rajya Sabha at least to ensure that the will of the people is reflected. Also we should ideally shift to a Presidential form of government with run offs amongst the losers to identify the main challenger to an existing President or the winner of the first round.

defeated sitting MP/MLA should be debarred for 5 years

A MP/MLA defeated means that people have no confidence in him/her. Hence he should be debarred from contesting for a period of 5 years, this will bring new people and keep MLA/MP to be
more active

Reforming polititians/political system in our country
by chand madan on Apr 16, 2009 10:58 AM  | Hide replies

I agree that the present system is not desirable and has many loop holes to make democracy totally undemocrtic. But the solution lies within us.If we as people care for democracy to function,we have to eliminate the corruption within us.What we as majority in a country are , so is the nation. If we as country men are so serious about democracy, what prevents us to make a right candidate stand for election on our behalf.Such a candidate would not require to spend loads of money on poll expences and would surely win.Think of large number of such candidates getting together to form a government or having such a large number to controle the majority party in peoples interest(like the communists did with UPA orthe Telgu Desam did with NDA}.

Instead of contesting elections, all political parties can come together to rule. And they change PMs from each party to rule for one year only. Good no! No need to spend money on elections
