Peopl like Mathai should go as evangelist to pursue your antinational stand in politics.Have you heard of the role of the Church in pre and post independent India when they acted as tools of British What is the role of minorities in construction of India as a modern state? What was the role of Christians as a community in Independence struggle.Have you known that St Thomas never visited Keral and all the stories are manipulated as revealed by a Pope himself? BJP let the plane fly all over Asia, had it refueled, gave permission to no country help it, and very "manfully" saw the Talibanis conduct safe passage of terrorists and passengers. That was one of the biggest jokes of that decade. Imagine, Talibani gun-men helping Indian govt and Jaswant. Jaswant should thank the talibanis that he was also not shot down, particularly in a regime where no one other than Pakistan recognised Afghanistan then.
So Stop talking about 150 people on board. Talk instead about how the plane went round and round in the skies.

The computation of risk involved in the plane was much larger than you can perhaps imagine. The commercial risk extended to air travel to and fro India and domestic travel within.
There was also security issue whether it would make sense to aggravate situation and unwittingly expand the scope for threat by inviting the wrath of terrorists in refuge there. They were the very ones who caused 9/11.
People also tend to forget then world of sanctions, which had put India's relationship with West under severe strain.
BJP/NDA deserves credit for doing their very best in a complex, unprecedented and almost lawless situation.

Actually this is correct. Leaders hoping to lead a nation should stop behaving like brats. Modi is one of the biggest brat there is, he is like a Chandrasekhar who talked and talked and then when a PM could make no head and tail of the country.
A Home Minister can not override a Foreign Minister, unless he is a head of a cabinet sub-committee formed to tackle such a specific purpose.
His claim for presently having the political capacity to override the joint decision of Prime Minister and FM is patently absurd. His mass base is hardly anything. More important, such interference without accountability would be illegal.
Further, if there is an internal security crisis situation we hope that he would not tolerate others dictating him how to handle his Home Ministry.
We have politicians who create regional and religious hatred to become politicians; politicians who oppose good projects like Tata Nano for political gains.As most voters in India are uneducated and under educated - they can be easily provoked by religious and regional hatred etc. Many politicians target such people to get their votes. Only very few of the educated who can judge the politicians, actually vote. Just criticising our political system and politicians is not going to bring a change. We can bring a change by voting for the right person and persuading/educating people around you to vote for the right person. Loksatta is the only party which has good principles and agenda and led by a very good statesman Dr.Jayapraksh Narayan (Former IAS). It is the only party which supports and opposes government based on policies instead of bluntly opposing government like other opposition parties. He's useless ??? That is why he reached this level without any family, Papa dada or Nana in politics, try fighting a local gram panchayat election..ched main se paseenaa aa jayegaa. He rose from ground in a country which is all capured by Nehru Dynasty, where political importance is judged by closeness to the Dynasty...People like Mulayam, Mayawati, Vajpayee, Modi may be anything but useless they are selfmade mass leaders...
