Hinduism's is a hierarchical-based irrational system of keeping one class (Brahmins?) over everyone else.
In America there is no system in place today that forces people to remain separate or keeps one class subservient to another. If you were born the son of a street sweeper, but excelled, you could become a doctor or lawyer or some celebrity or entrepreneur - and at the same time you would be fully accepted by your peers.
Not so in India. The caste system freezes everyone in place. It is extremely difficult - almost impossible - for someone from the lowest caste to rise in education and social status.
A Dalit would never be allowed to marry into one of the higher castes and would never be accepted as an equal. And for a Dalit to make it into MEDICAL school or opening a RESTAURANT or become a PRIEST in a temple or become a member of high SOCIETYin India is very rare indeed.
Only by escaping from the grasp of Hinduism do they have much of a chance.... Till then you must only vote for candidates from your CASTE till 85% of all registered marriages in India are INTER-CASTE or INTER-FAITH.

You must be a non-hindu person who is writing like this. All the religions are born out of hinduism. You are talking of America, but the Americans are trying to follow hinduism. They have accepted that hinduism is the way of life but not a religion. You cannot say that the brahmins are above all the casts in hinduism. Not at all true...Hindusism started of as a philiosphy/way of life and zorastrinism is considered as the first monotheistic religion on earth. Also, our earliest ancestors were stone, mountain, wind, thunder, (nature) worshippers...they later on formed organized religion...so we are ALL CONVERTS!

1. I was in Christian boarding school in 5th class at Varanasi. Bible was supplied free and I have to purchase a song book to sing in the church. I was sent every Sunday to church to attend bible classes. Once when I asked to visit Vishwanath Temple I was so badly treated that I dare not to ask again and was able to visit the temple when my father came during vacations. After 5th I violently opposed to go to that Christian boarding school. Hello you followers of Christ and missionaries what you say that what impact will give on child of such a tender age. Was that act of boarding school funded by western missionaries’ right? 2. Second example recently I fell down along with my mother from a bike .several persons gathered around me for helping hand. Another person come for helping hand started sermons from bible. till he was chanting prayers from bible I did not objected thereafter he started saying come to Christ only Christ can save you others are false. Then I objected, you can pray to whom you believe but how can you describe others faith as false? So my dear followers of Christ and missionaries be strict to your faith but do not describe others faith as false and bad. Missionaries first put a cross at places of worships of adivasis terming it as “Khrist Bhagwan” and when adivasis started worshiping it they very tactfully started removing the other symbols of adivasis worships and started claiming that the adivasis have become Christians.

Not at all Mr. Singh!! We Christians have done harm too, but most guys here are taking this whole thing to the extreme with spiteful communal talk and then feel bad when someone tells them off. I accept that we have faults, but on this site it seems like it's only a one way traffic and there are no reasons for the others pointing fingers to introspect within themselves.

Joe, I dont know about Ravishankar's theory, but I thought of letting you know that I can back at least 50% of what he says. Mostly regarding schools. Also there are many areas in India, where as soon as you get introduced to a Christian, they will no doubt behave very nicely with you, but within moments they will start asking you to come to church and attend some sessions because thats something you should do. I am sure a lot others have faced it too. I dont want to go into details because it makes the posts lengthy, but if you want I can talk more on this later. Sensing from your other posts, I can make out that even though you claim to be calm, you are actually an agigated person and hence you are writing something under every post.

In Kandhamal district, for instance, the Christian population has increased from six per cent in 1971 to 27 per cent in 2001, despite a law enacted by the Orissa Legislature in 1967 to prevent conversion by allurement, coercion, bribery and cheating.
