why should jlalitha lose
by ranganathan on May 15, 2006 06:01 PM

took vijayakanth lightly. He managed 8.36 % of total votes- whose ?
Inspite of getting all the film bigwigs with her,She has basked on poor memory of tamil nadu electorate
She went after the poor old man Shankaracharya. Proof
Supreme court agreed that a fair trial is not possible in tamil nadu. Where justice cannot be assured such a govt has no moral reason to continue

Not a Good Analysis
by Mohan on May 15, 2006 06:00 PM

Your analysis is not correct. If all the sections that you have mentioned were completely against her, DMK should have had a sweep and a majority on its own, which did not happen. From the hopeless position she was in after lok sabha elections 2004, she has staged a remarkable comeback. The TN assembly is now witnessing the strongest presence of opposition members in it's history. The people's thinking seems to have been this - "Her government was ok... But second term? No, let's see next time..."

Why J. lost
by C.R.CHANDRASEKARAN on May 15, 2006 04:18 AM

Itwas a regime of vengeance, violence and arrogance, besides being corrupt as usual. She misused power in every sense. What is her answer for the death of around 70 Road Workers or for humiliating Govt employees including threatening women employees and women in the household of male employees that they would be booked for flesh trade or for the midnight arrest and roughing up of the old man misusing the obliging police force. Her interview to the BBC Karan Thapar in 2004 exposes her being a misfit for heading the Govt. (Can the Supreme Court again rescue her with a verdict as in TANSI case? That it has to wake up the Legislature to think of some measure to make the Judiciary accountable being besides the point, people of Tamilnadu have not forgotten this verdict).

Why Jayalalitha lost
by Sudhakar Akula on May 14, 2006 09:00 PM

Despite the political, administrative factors, her Horoscope (the position of Saturn) was mainly reasonable for her defeat.

Why Jayalalithaa lost
by Senthil Arumugham on May 14, 2006 01:26 PM

Yes. It is true that because Jaya illtreated Kanchi Pontiff HH Jayendra Saraswathi and HH Vijayendra Saraswathi she lost the Election. Because there was not even 1% anti Jaya wave right through. Wherever I went and with whoever I discussed everything was in favour of Jaya only. Otherwise DMK would have won sizeably. It is a pure jackpot for DMK and face saving. You cannot even call it a win for DMK. Immediately after the arrest, Tsunami came. Never in the history of India. Jaya should have realised at that time. Few astrologers hinted. Again unprecedented Flood. She did't realise. So, in this Election the minus factor was Vijayakant. In Vijayakant's name you can see both Pontiffs names!!! What an irony.

With the difference in margin, you cannot attribute her defeat to any other factor. She was destined to lose. It only reminds me of the Great Tamil Poet Kambar who, in his Ramayana, says, when Lord Rama was leaving for forest, "Vidhi Munne chella Dharmam Pinne Chendrathu (i.e., Fate overtook dharma).

Again, if Jaya does some Prayachitham (she knows), there is still chance. But I dont want to say how.

About TN Assembly Election
by mggkn on May 13, 2006 11:20 PM

According to this Election DMK has won but they lost their strategy, We can say it's tactical success by delivering false commitments, moreover there is no vision to boost the TN Economy and other aspects. No Party (apparently DMK and AIADMK) had a policy of opening a huge investments on southern districts to create a huge employment opportunities in their Manifesto...It would be a great by providing employment to buy a TV by own rather cheap commitments to the people.

color TV
by ravi on May 13, 2006 09:35 PM

Did the electorate in the opinion polls before or after say that they voted for color Tv? They voted sensibly for once !maybe 'cause they do not like dictatorship.
