Wish to see u again
by Amit on Feb 01, 2005 09:00 AM

Just best wishes and good luck.
Hope to see you back writing columns.
What you had written about Cevil Service officers from Bihar is write, but you forgot to write the reason.
Let me tell you. Biharis are hard working and fast learning people and taht is why Chanakya setup first University of India there. In addition to this, they have an upper edge then other students, though not every one but many of them, they have connections. So they do alot in Exams every where.

How is it different ?
by RM on Feb 01, 2005 03:22 AM

Though I share the views about political and economical problems in Bihar, is it not true that as people from one country Bihar being a part of it , We have failed to help . Abusing and cursing Biharis is definitely not the solution . If it was because of Lalu misrule , He is the Railway Minister and he represents India not just Bihar . WHy don't Congress or the parties which are at the government do it without him. WHy does Manmohan Singh need Lalu . He is also the face of India not just Bihar.
If Bihar cannot manage without Lalu what about our country men ? WHy are You silent and accept Lalu ?

Proud to be a bihari
by Swetank on Feb 01, 2005 02:40 AM

You are potraying Bihar as if its some place out of this world, where barbarians live. Being a bihari, its really hearting to see the statement written at the bottom of your article which says "... Wish him luck...". Buddy he is going to Bihar and not Bagdad. And if that was to make the world aware that how dreadful bihar is, then I pitty, not about bihar, but about the way you are trying to potray it. Me being a bihari, and others who feel proud to be a part of bihar, definitly feel elavated with the fact that bihar (Magadh) has been the birth place of civilization in India. Problems were there is other states as well.. Punjab, MP, AP, TN etc... its only a matter of time and things gets back to normal. And if you think you need a good luck wish to visit Bihar, then you better not....

Thanks Salil.

You have pointed out something which has been bothering me for a long time. I a Telegu, born n brought up in Bihar. I have always considered myself a bihari. I have grown up between real good people, people who consider friends nd neighbours as family, who might be "THEETH" - as we call it in Bihar, ie arrogant, a bit rough in their talking style, etc. But every region is characterized by a particular set of attributes. Otherwise they are people with whom one can be real comfortable. I am pained whenever anyone tries to point the wrongdoings of a handful of people and corrupt "Bihari" due to their activities. The current situation is a fall-out of JP movement being utilized by some petty leaders following him to their benefits. I have met so many people who were in schools/collages in those times; all justify the purpose of the movement by JP, but not 1 seem to understand how they got themselves into whatever they did. 5yr courses were done in 8-9 yrs! Collages closed for 2 years or more!! JP himself realized this towards his end. Laloo,Nitish,Paswan, etc are a product of this. Whenever I get a comment on Bihar, I ask "Any ideas!?". Well, silence.

b..b..bihari
by Amit on Jan 29, 2005 10:51 AM

dear mr. salil kumar,
being a bihari, i can assure u that when u r back,u would be feeling better about Bihar.
wish u a good luck on visiting the so called
"planet B".
Bihar owes its bad taste to only those who think that getting called a Bihari is a shame for them. Natives of Bihar come out and feel bad when they are called Bihar. They are "really" not Bihari they can be termed "Gaddaar" appropraitely, and u know such people are not less in number, but do not overcome the total number of people who feel proud in being and getting called "aye--Bihari".
Many +es you have enlisted,, one more and the most improtnat is the Positive Intellect.
