Its motivating
by Amitabh Saxena on May 12, 2004 02:32 PM

This should be motivating enough to the intelligentia to enter in politics and change the destiny of country for the good! Market forces are never wrong, it only proves that becoming an MP itself needs certain skills which are worthy of high salaries.

No wonder Anil Ambani asked IIM graduates to join politics (The Hindu, 28/3/2004).

MP Salary Blown way out of proportion.
by marpak suraj on Apr 21, 2004 11:17 AM

The table is blown way out of proportion.

Pt 6. Air tickets are given from New Delhi to the residence and Not Anywhere in India.

Pt 7. The author is invited to my house in North Avenue, to decide himself whether it is a 'BUNGALOW'. Its an apartment.

Pt 9. No free TVs' please. You have to get most of your own stuff. Cots/Fans/ exist.

Pt 11. Tell me any corporate who will go one a foreign official work and pay his own flight tickets.

Pt 12. MPLADS the 2 crore you are talking about is for developing of constituency. If an Asset Manager of say ICICI Mutual Fund is handling public money of
around 100 crores, is it called his?

It is very easy to poke fun at others and make NEWS with a big cartoon and all. Please try to put things in perspective.

Saying that an IIM grad is being paid less than an MP is ridiculus.

I actually feel that MPS should be paid more than IIM grads. This I feel will increase their pride towards their position.

We should give them more than that.
by Johnson on Apr 08, 2004 05:50 PM

There is nothing wrong in that.
Because they are our representatives.
We should give them that much respect & previleges because we only elected those fellows.
What ever they are doing is for our goodness.
If any body has any doubt in that don't vote.
Then only you can speak against MPs.
Electing & not admitting their decisions simultaneouly is virtually impractical.
Thank You.

Pay peanuts. Attract monkeys.
by Rajiv on Apr 07, 2004 01:48 AM

Being an MP is hell of a lot more stressful than being an MBA. If you want to attract the best and the brightest, you have pay them well. There are only 543 MPs in a country of more than a billion people. Surely, India can afford to keep its MPs well paid.
Why do we always have this "they are looting us mentality"?. There are a lot of jobs out there in the private sector that pay a lot more than what these MPs make. Pay them well and expect high standards of service. That's the way to go!.

by jaresh on Apr 06, 2004 06:06 PM

I don't think itz too much...!
We have the some wrong opinions in our mind that all our politician or used to bribe, the salary sturcture has been mentioned for MP who works for his people who took part to develop his people who made himbe seated in parliament, thatz the way it has organised.
I agree that evry MP should not get easy salaries while we are paying all our taxable incomes for een single pie.!

MP Salary
by PNSMani on Apr 06, 2004 08:13 AM

Pity there is no yardstick applied for performance Vs pay; let us link it to the minimum wage of worker; that way, any increase would mean rise in lowest wage and that would ruin the economy, if MPs want too much !! Also if no MP is chosen by giving option "none of the above", I am sure it will win; the amount saved can be spent on the constitency thro official machinery for alround development !
Who will bell the cat ?
