An MP gets more than an MBA
by Prof Rajendra Aggarwala Lt.Col.(retired) on Mar 31, 2004 08:40 AM

It is ridiculous to compare the salary of an MBA with an MP. An MP is a statutorily elected member of the parliament of India. He/she represents the aspirations of the millions of people of the constituency he/she represents, and is the voice of the people. An MP is responsible for creating/amending the laws of the country, and has to go before the people for every five years, with no security to service. It is a great honour and obligation to be an MP in the nation. There are only 543 MPs in the parliament, that is in the whole country.

What responsibility does an MBA has in contrast? Whose interests does an MBA represent? Any person can become an MBA with two years of simple education after an undergraduate degree. How many MBAs may be in country, probably lakhs, if not millions. I think that an MBA is highly overrarated that his/her true qualifications, simply because an MBA deals with money/buisness and are normally overpaid in contrast lot of other professionals with much higher education and intellect, and much more onerous responsibilities.

An MP deserves much higher emoluments. The pity is that most of our MPs do not carry out their responsibilities honestly.

Perks to the MPs
by Mayank Bansal on Mar 31, 2004 04:46 AM  | Hide replies

Its very true that thw MPs misuse the money. This misuse can be tolerated to an extent if they work for the benefit of the citizens and counter, but unfortunetly they don't even do that. If a citizen under their constituency approaches them for some help, rather than helping them, they ask for the bribe and the poor citizen has no choice other than to give them money for the work they are entitled to be done for free. And the scenario becomes even worse when there work has not been done even after paying the MPs. I think there should be some minimum educational requirement for a person to even contest for the elections. I think untill the bureaucracy issue is not solved nthing can be done. One possible solution to this is that the citizens must have the right to roll back an goverment or MP if he/she doesn't works properly. I know its not easy to implement, but some way should be figured out to take poor citizens out of the trap of corrupt politicians.

Surprised the Professor can go off track ! What qualification required for MP -none academic, only you should be a gang member, of local dada, using your muscle or money power, to show off as doing social service, Few only really care for masses; Must change the system where illiterates can make rules for governance of a big country; we need more dedicated people from enlightened masses; God help

it is easy to criticize.

considering not jst MP's but other govt servants as well, who r given such paltry sums as their salaries, isnt it imperative tht they get those concessions? if the writer thinks tht they shouldnt recieve all those perks, then shouldnt their salaries be raised to counter for all those expenses? how does one manage to survive then at those sums without perks? why not question the perks tht army officials r entitled to? i think the same professionalism tht goes into an MBA.. should b seen going into a politician.. tht is the only solution.

Looting Economists-A Mark on our Economy
by Ajay Kumar Varanasi on Mar 30, 2004 07:45 PM

Hello,
This has been a big setback to our economy by looking at the details of the MP pay scales. It seems that they didnt work for the welfare of people to uplift our living standards but they keep on deteriorating our economic condition.Thats why our nation is in such a poor state with lot of debts and many people below minimum standard level of income.Unless these people were punished by introducing/incorporating new governing laws which must be implemented, The fate of our country remains the same and These Politicians will go to IMF/WORLD BANK for borrowment to fill their pockets.crap on these people. It needs a collective voice to pronounce it as loud to be heard all over the world. but the common man will never be given chance to prove this.shame on them.shame on india.

MP's total earnings

All the MPs, MLAs, IAS & IPS Officers earn far more than any IIM Graduate even if IIM MBA is posted in US & his salary converted into IRs. None of the allowances shown are fully spent & what about unseen perks, MPs enjoy. For Rs.8/km they get, do they ever use their own car, own fuel, Taxis or spend their daily allowance. They also have cuts from contracts on works from (NO) developmental funds. Where is development? If only each MP spends Rs.2 crores properly, its whopping 1050 crores yearly & India would hve been land of Honey & Milk. Alas India is land of salt & Liquor. Shame on MPs & MLAs, they dont deserve to be called even dogs. We will be insulting dogs if compared with MPs & MLAs (Members of Lunatic assylum)

MPs have to spend developmental fund on their goonda associates to maintain MPs law & order. Development is confined to goondas, murderers & criminals who are the most trusted personal aides of MPs.

Does any MP know his constituency to think of development. Why govt cant spend 1050 crores directly is a big question. Probably govt feels, there are more thugs to share the loot & hence one big thug is better. It also serves Govt in its own way.
