If the trend of distributing Bharat Ratna continues, the next recipient of Bharat Ratna should be Sunny Leone for promoting India name making India proud. Mahesh Bhatt and Ekta Kapoor will endorse from bollywood

Well deserved but arbitrary
by Harkeerat Randhawa on Feb 04, 2014 08:48 PM

The Bharat Ratna's conferred on Tendulkar and Prof. Rao are a testament to their respective successes. However, it appears extremely arbitrary as the following have not been given the award even after many decades
- Major Dhyanchand,India's premier olympian and icon of excellence ;Homi Bhabha, father of the Indian nuclear programme ;Vikram Sarabhai, father of ISRO ; Satish Dhawan, Rocketry pioneer ; M.S. Swaminathan, father of the Green Revolution; Verghese Kurien, progenitor of Operation Flood.
With these luminaries denied the Bharat Ratna, one wonders about the context of superseding them in favour of Tendulkar and Rao.

Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar
by on Feb 04, 2014 08:32 PM

His assurance to bat for India and bring a smile on many an Indian in his future endeavours is music to ears. But will it turn out to be mere rhetoric,we have to watch and see.Why there is an element of doubt in my mind is that he has joined the bandwagon of the dynasty. And the man on the saddle of the dynasty is a synonym of immaturity and hollowness!!

Why Dr Rao was not given importance by Indian Media?
by Dr. Ram Srivastava on Feb 04, 2014 07:57 PM  | Hide replies

The Indian electronic and press media is highly immature. Today two persons were honoured with Bharat Ratna. Media has totally ignored Dr Rao. His contribution in science has benefited mankind and will continue to benefit specially India as well as the world in general for
generations to come. But the media in India is only singing song of Tindulkar. This is one of the reasons of brain drain from India.

I agree with the views of Dr.Srivastava. In fact this shows that Science & Technology are less important to India of which Media's role is deplorable. This is just unfortunate that at the same time PM is expressing his views for not proper development of Science & Technology in the world level. Politicians at the helm of affairs do not even hesitate to state that our research standard is far below the world standard … we are not getting Nobel laureates etc etc …

Thank you Dr Mukhopadhyay for sharing the views. Infact, today was the right occasion to encourage our youth to opt science by telling the contribution of Dr Rao.

Thanks to Dr.Srivastava. Students with real scientific bent should not depend upon whims and fancy of Government [read politicians/bureaucrat]. They should regard their 'vision' and proceed and for that if the situation so warrants they should go abroad for the fulfillment of their vision – no boundary for research in science and technology.

because it's media ratna not bharat ratna... bharat ratna is Vishy Anand and Dhyanchand in sports.. real gems are always ignored in india.

Just imagine..
by Sangram Parida on Feb 04, 2014 07:54 PM  | Hide replies

who will make you smile when you are in immense pain.

A doctor who will administer you a pain killer
or a comedian who makes people laugh. Of course a doctor.Players, actors are mere entertainers and they have nothing to offer to the society whereas science has saved thousands of lives and given us happiness. Now its upto you to decide who is better suitable. I think conferring Bharat Ratna to a player is another ploy of congress which is going to backfire.
